Trick or Treat: The Best Halloween Sweets

MexiBBQ, located in Astoria, is not one to skimp out on Halloween. In addition to the handful of pumpkin and Halloween-themed beers they'll be serving, make sure to stop in for some of their Pumpkin Panna Cotta with Apple Cider Donuts. Nothing says its October like a good dose of apple cider, and there's no better way to enjoy it than in a decadent donut.

Chef Francois Payard is offering scrumptious Pumpkin Macarons at both his Francois Payard Bakery and Francois Payard Patisserie. The macarons are filled with a traditional pumpkin pie flavored ganache and can be ordered in sets of 12 ($29) and 24 ($49), as well as individually ($2.25). A macaron gift box will make someone very happy if you're in the market for gifts!

City Harvest's Bid Against Hunger Raises $1M

Earlier this week, City Harvest, a New York City-based food rescue organization, hosted their 18th Annual Bid Against Hunger gala, raising a whopping $1 million. The event hosted over 70 of the city's best chefs and cuisine from their restaurants. The event, which took place at the Metropolitan Pavilion, not only had an ample amount of delicious food, but both a live and silent auction, as well. Available auction items included exclusive dinners with top chefs, vacation packages, sports memorabilia, concert tickets, and much more. The C'est Magnifique auction package included a private wine class at Le Bernardin hosted by Aldo Sohm, as well as dinner for two and a private tour of the kitchen with Eric Ripert and was sold for $50,000! Famous chefs in attendance include Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert, Marc Murphy, Marcus Samuelsson, Francois Payard, and many more.

Mushroom Festival Takes Place at Paprika

The Northern Italian restaurant staple in St. Mark's, Paprika, is offering a deal that food-lovers won't be able to resist. Chef and owner Egidio Donagrandi has introduced a special Mushroom Festival menu that is available now until October 28th. The menu plays homage to Egidio's childhood in Valtellina, where he frequently would forage for fresh shrooms. The dishes will include fresh seasonal mushrooms in classic Italian dishes and can be order a la carte or as part of a four-course meal for $52. Best of all, these are the kind of shrooms you won't be in trouble for eating! Check out the dishes being served below.

Disturbingly Divine Halloween Dinner

Don't let the kiddies have all the fun this Halloween - adults, err, foodies know how to get down, too. This one's for you! Luckily, Pounds & Ounces in Chelsea is hosting a 'Disturbingly Divine' Halloween dinner party on October 31st. There will be plenty of tricks and treats at this fiesta. Not only will DJ Jimmy Prada be mixing spooky tunes all evening long, but there will be specialty Halloween cocktails and a tasting menu built around The Seven Deadly Sins created by Chef Cipollone. On Fire: Roger Mooking

Surely most foodie fiends know about Roger Mooking, the Trinidadian-Canadian chef who hosts Everyday Exotic on the Cooking Channel, stars on the Food Network's Heat Seekers with Aaron Sanchez, and most recently, aired his latest show, Man Fire Food, on the Cooking Channel, which debuted in September. In the show, Roger travels the country to discover intentive ways in which others cook with fire. We got to chat with the chef about his favorite cuisine, why he likes to grill, and what he's up to right now.

Queen of the Downtown Scene

This past weekend, Manhattan Fashion Directory presented the Queen of the Downtown Scene, Patti Astor's first book at Clic Gallery. Patti Astor, famed performer, is known for her time as a ballerina, actress, and gallery owner. Her book, FUN Gallery...The True Story, is a memoir documenting her experiences as a dancer turned anti-Vietnam revolutionary who went on to open the most famous art gallery in the world, Fun Gallery.

Her memoir delves into the downtown days of the East Village, where Patti had adventures in her gallery with some of the most noted artists Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Leo Castelli, and Fab 5 Freddy.

The book was edited by celebrity stylist, Angelique Max of Manhattan Fashion Directory and is currently being sold at Clic Gallery in SoHo.
