Earlier this week, The School of American Ballet held their 2013 Winter Ball: A Night in the Far East at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater. The annual dinner dance was attended by more than 400 patrons, including the School's board members and alumni, as well as leaders from New York corporate and social communities. Van Cleef & Arpels and Ron Wendt Design put on quite the display, evoking the colors and ornaments of the Baron Alexis de Rede's 1969 Le Bal Oriental held at the Hotel Lambert in Paris. Van Cleef & Arpels was the lead corporate sponsor of the gala for the sixth year in a row. The ball began with cocktails and dinner, followed by a performance and then The Encore dessert and dancing.
Park Slope has quite the pizzaiolo on their hands - Robert Patriarca opened Brooklyn Central in October 2012, where he fuses "Old World" and "New World" dishes. With a focus on Neapolitan pizza, "Old World" refers to the buffalo mozzarella imported from Italy with conventional toppings, while "New World" pizza incorporate fresh mozzarella made in Brooklyn. The pizzeria sources many of their ingredients locally, and by local we mean right down the street. Since Neapolitan pizzas seem to be on trend in New York City, it can be very difficult to know where to go to get a great slice. Even for Manhattanites, a trek to Brooklyn is worth a slice here.
Brooklyn Central is located at 289 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. 347-725-4891
The month of March brings New Yorkers the Second Annual Sagrantino Month at Eataly, brought to you by the Montefalco Consortium. The association is responsible for coordinating with local producers and guiding them in both constant quality research and the promotion of the quintessential wines of their territory. Sagrantino Month is part of a year-long Sagrantino campaign. The Sagrantino promotion at Eataly will include a trade seminar, consumer classes, wine tasting, and wine by the glass at all of Eataly's restaurants. The promotion will continue across the country with virtual tastings, trade tastings, meetings, and a consumer awareness and education program. Sagrantino is the regional Umbrian wine and has quickly become a favorite in Italy. Now Sagrantino producers are attempting to expand its success to the United States. There are five participating wineries in the Sagrantino Month promotion, including Antonelli San Marco, Arnaldo Caprai, Perticaia, Scacciadiavoli, and Tenuta Castelbuono.
Cat Footwear, a division of Wolverine World Wide Inc. and global licensee of Caterpillar Inc., is a brand that focuses on quality, rugged leathers, old-fashioned craftsmanship, and sophisticated details, all for a reasonable price. During Nolcha Fashion Week, we got to see a preview of Cat Footwear's Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which launches March 20th, and couldn't get enough. The collection features pastels and earth tones, perfect for the warm weather ahead. We particularly love the bohemian look of their sandals, which are made of leather and feature many crisscrossing straps, reminiscent of the gladiator sandal. The Cat Footwear dress sneakers in this collection lean towards the preppy side, but can be worn by any fashionista. The new collection just makes us itch to see the warm weather and have our toes peek out from these summery styles.
'Tis the time of year when the we dust of our green attire, drink green beer, and party 'til we all think we're actually Irish. St. Patrick's Day is upon us and it's one of the most infamous drinking holidays. In honor of our favorite excuse to booze, we've rounded up some of the most delicious (and lucky) libations for you to celebrate with. Enjoy!

National Meatball Day is March 9th and in honor of this spectacular meaty occasion, Daniel Mancini will be offering a special buy one, get one free meatball deal on Friday and Saturday at his restaurant walk-up, Meatball Obsession, in Manhattan.
Daniel and his partners launched MamaMancini's, a retail meatball company, in 2007 using his grandma's delicious recipe. One of the great thing about these meatballs is that you can select what kind of meat you'd like, whether it be beef, turkey, chicken, or pork sausage. The savory meatballs are slathered in authentic Italian red sauce and are reminiscent of a traditional, home cooked Sunday dinner. Whether you eat them as is or with pasta, they are a treat in themselves. Can't make it to take advantage of this awesome deal? MamaMancini's are offered at numerous local grocery stores throughout the city and country.
