Anne Bowen found the last place in New York that smoking was allowed indoors. New York City Fashion Week, and with cigars! Were the cigars lit? Maybe, maybe not. What difference does it make? Anne Bowen's line seems to be bringing back the era of the old Downtown nightclub, reminiscent of the days when smoke hovered above the heads of the crowd listening to an old jazz band down on Bleecker Street. Sequined and pinstriped, it seems as the collection was fighting for a hip, classy and retro trend. The cigar was a nice touch.

Perhaps this past week in nightlife has given us yet another clue as to what our industry does when something goes terribly wrong. I reported earlier in the week on the death of 17 year old Nicole Johns, daughter of an American ambassador, child socialite. As the trail leading up to her death from the 25th floor of a skyscraper in Herald Square led us through her footsteps back to the velvet rope at Tenjune, the city and the blogging world began to buzz about who let her in, who let her drink, who gave her her fake, and who, just who in the world could get this child so drunk in New York City.
The highly anticipated announcement from District 36 has finally come. Featuring Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg, the opening night promises to be one of nightlife's most exclusive red carpet evenings.
Victoria Azarenka collapsed during her match against Gisela Dulko during the U.S. Open today in Flushing Meadows. Describing headache-like symptoms, she was rushed to the hospital after falling to the court following a serve return. She is No. 10 in the lineup and her trainer has stated that the excessive heat was not the primary cause of the collapse, but a contributing factor.
