When we heard the news about Hugh Jackman’s recent health scare a lot of us reacted with a “What? But he’s wolverine?” He may be one of Hollywood’s most likeable and desirable actors but, unfortunately, unlike his onscreen alter ego, his body isn’t undestructible.
On his instagram page, Hugh Jackman revealed yesterday that he had to his have his nose treated because the doctor found on it some undesirable cells. He posted a picture of himself with a bandage on his nose along with the following statement.
“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
Basil cell carcinoma is a common type of cancer but fortunately it’s very rarely fatal. It is however still considered malignant because it can cause damage and disfigurement to the skin and surrounding tissue. It’s a good thing that Hugh listened to his wife Deb and got medical treatment. No word yet on his prognosis but we know he’ll definitely want to keep an eye on things. According to the national health department Australia, which is where Hugh is from, has the highest skin cancer rate in the world.
We know that Hugh is not afraid to put his body through tough regimes for film roles but hopefully he is now getting some much deserved rest and relaxation. Fans around the world do want their wolverine to be around for a long time.
