Lorde's Birth Certificare Released to Prove Real Age
People have been speculating the singer is older than she claims to be

While Pharrell’s hat may have been the most popular thing on Twitter during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards, there was also something else that had people talking. As viewers were watching Lorde perform and win some Grammys, they were also speculating about how old the 17-year-old really is. There are theories that the singer is older than what she claims to be.

To put the rumors to rest, a website called The Hairpin actually bought a copy of the singer’s birth certificate which lists her birthday as November 6, 1996 and her real name, Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor. The website paid $17.02 to obtain the copy of the certificate.

Lorde is aware of the theories about her age. At a pre-Grammys party recently she stated to Vanity Fair, “Hi I’m Ella,” before deadpanning, “and I’m actually 45.”

The singer took home two Grammy Awards Sunday night. She won Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for her song “Royals.” Not bad for a 17-year-old.
