We definitely love a good party, so this year my must-go party for Art Basel belongs to the Perrier-Jouet cocktail party hosted by none other than Soho House. It doesn't get any better than the Soho House in South Beach in the Tiki Garden.
The famed champagne brand has teamed up with Art Basel to become its official champgane for the festivities. A yummy tasting of Perrier-Jouet will be a delight as flutes will be dangling on the "Enchanting Tree". This feature will embrace the nature theme throughout Art Basel as well as enchant guests.
Improv Everywhere, New York's perennial pranksters, are at it again. But this time, they're getting performers around the world to join the act.
Drawing on the eye-catching success of last year's "Black Tie Beach" at Coney Island, hundreds of jokers donned formal wear this weekend and took off for the shoreline (this year they were at the Rockaways), where they spent a day splashing water and turning heads. When asked by lifeguards and curious onlookers why they were dressed up, they nonchalantly answered that they "just liked dressing up for the beach."
As the end of summer quickly approaches, you may find yourself kissing goodbye those hopes of escaping to the Hamptons for a mini-vacay. If it’s the beach you’re looking for, then no worries. Water Taxi Beach at Governor's Island has got you covered. With a great location just minutes off the coast of Lower Manhattan, a seaside daycation is close and possible. It is as easy as a four minute ferry ride from the Battery Maritime building in the Financial District. A ferry will bring you across the glistening Hudson River to Governor’s island. The ride is free so be prepared to wait in line for up to twenty minutes.
One of the prettiest, hottest, & simplest hair styles this summer is the french braid. The cooled out style is not an easy one to conquer but a style to rock for anywhere you go this summer. Bonus: Once the braid is unraveled, you've got some awesome luscious waves which didn't take long or required any effort to perfect!
The trick behind a perfect French Braid is to have your hair dampened slightly! This creates the perfect hold without the extra product. If you really want the perfect hold- try this style straight out of the ocean. The combination between the salt water and the sun drying your hair is perfect. A Natural Hold!
Check out the video for thorough detail on the French Braid- How To.
With Spring Break 2011 approaching, both SB veterans and virgins prepare for a week of sun, sand, and sipping. This year’s Spring Break is even more welcome as the long, harsh winter is coming to an end.
When approaching SB, we can easily place our cast of characters into three groups: the party animals, the sophisticated scholars and, of course, the sorority girls. Here are cocktail suggestions and recipes for each of these SB crews. Here’s to a week filled with hookups and hopefully no throw-ups.
The Party Animals: We will find your group most likely cross-dressing and dancing on a bar facing the ocean. For your group, upgrade your traditional beer bongs with a local flare. Whether you are chilling in Florida, Mexico or Cali, you can find great locally produced brews that will add a dash of environmental consciousness to your head rushes.
Heading to the beach? Make sure you have all these necessities so you can relax in the sun all day and look great doing it.

Although the calendar hasn't officially turned on its fluorescent "SUMMER" sign, we're all already feeling it. Between the heat rising devishly off of the pavement and choking us in torrid desperation, and the saving grace of the season's first whimsical weekend trips to the beach, summer has already landed, unpacked her bags and started on her base tan.
Los Feliz, a taqueria/taquileria hot spot located in the heart of the lower east side, agrees with us - enough is enough! It's summer! Break out the drinks! Officially launching on June 5th, Los Feliz will be armed and ready for the hot weather with their brand new margarita menu. But since you all are very dear in my feverish heart, I've taken it upon myself to share the goods with you - just a little something to cool us all down:
"Our music isn't that serious. All of the bands I looked up to growing up weren't serious, either. They would have serious lyrics and silly music or serious music and silly lyrics. Music should be about having a good time."
-Phil Shaheen, Tijuana Panthers
California is the home of sunny weather, Hollywood phonies, celebrity politicians, and breast implants numbering two for every one female. However, every one of these characteristics can be transplanted to any region of the country willing to lower its standards. There is one Golden State feature that is strictly held as a California staple, no matter how justified one feels toward redefining the location-identifying label. That is the sweet, echo-y sounds of surf rock.
