Ah, New Year's. A time for us all to decide which party to go to and which friends to party with. Should we head to NYC to watch the ball drop? Should we go skiing up in the mountains? House party with some close friends? The decisions are endless, as are the decisions on what to wear. Everybody wants to look glam, damnit, and it can be hard to know just how to pull off that special look. Well, we are here to help. Here are some options to make your decision-making a little more easy.
Make-Up: First and foremost, the right makeup on New Year's Eve is so important. No one wants their eyeliner to run or their lipstick to fade as the night goes on. Make sure you start with a primer to keep that make-up lasting into the wee hours of the night. We like Benefit's That Gal Brightening Face Primer ($29) so give those cheeks an extra glow. If you're going for a bold lip, there's nothing better for NYE than Susan Posnick's Coloressentials line ($19). The lipsticks come in fun, bright colors and is super moisturizing and shiny, plus it's very compact so can fit into the smallest clutch for touch-ups. Make those eyes pop with Lashfully's Lash Appeal Kit ($38). The kit contains two sets of eyelashes with adhesive and tweezers and will provide the most natural and lusciously long lashes for you to don. With the most essential make-up musts out of the way, it's time to move onto what to wear.
Presented by Style360 and held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City, the Bebe Black Fall 2012 fashion show attracted a packed house of editors, celebrities and fashionistas alike. The wonderful aspect to the Bebe brand is that these are well-made designs, that flatter the body, with attention to detail that many consumers can afford to purchase and enjoy. MTV's Snooki from "Jersey Shore" and Angela Simmons, daughter of rap mogul Russell Simmons (Rev Run) were spotted in the front row. I'll be the first to say, that the Bebe Black Collection had a very up-scale and mature vibe to it. As the playful, funky music began-- out came the first styles. Models featured a Gwen Stefani-type retro look with pin-curl rolled bangs, wavy hair, and a crimson red pout. My initial thought was "sexy secretary" as I noticed the demure hem-lines, but true to the Bebe sense of style -- I knew things were bound to heat up! After I was taken by the initial lady-like looks with a vampy twist, my next favorite was a leopard jacket paired with a skinny cropped pant and accented by a sassy red pointed-toe heel which was so chic! For a special occasion, party or event there were beautiful floor length dresses that hugged every curve of the body in a lush midnight blue velvet or sexy black lace with cut-out detailing.
As the holidays approach us our minds become wrapped around the usual; eggnog, gift shopping, office parties, and how many pieces of fruit cake will I put away? Before you go shopping around for the perfect holiday dress, consider a jumpsuit instead. Yes. That’s right, jumpsuits are not reserved exclusively for summer. Many of our favorite designers have just the right jumpsuit to flatter your figure and leave room for comfort. Whether you’re attending a special occasion or ringing in the New Year with friends these select five will suit just about any event.
A peacoat is so last winter! Update your closet with some faux fur accessories! Although the weather has been at a surprising high, winter is rapidly lurking around the corner and what better way to tackle winter than with style? Last year leather was seen on the runways, blogs and street, however, leather can only go so far in NYC when it's 30 degrees and snowing. So why not get smart, sexy and comfortable with some fabulous faux fur?
For the animal lovers at home, faux fur has made an impact on fashion and we must say it's here to stay! Not only is it inexpensive but it's sold practically everywhere, making it accessible for the fashionista on a budget.
Are you an avid shopper? Do you have the need for fashion? Well, designers have made it easier for you to reach their products and services by placing it all in the palm of your hands, literally! Besides the Michael Kors and BEBE apps on my smartphone which I cannot live without, there are downloads more geared towards keeping up with your personal styling. These app tools vary from shopping, to styling, to staying up-to-date with the latest collections and designer deals.
Great style doesn't always have to cost an arm and a leg. Companies like H&M and TopShop have proven that! With a little research and patience, you can find the latest trends in quality materials at great prices.
Handbags are notoriously expensive. They're what we like to call "investment pieces." Normally you can expect to pay several hundred dollars (if not thousands) for a quality, designer handbag. But what about those who don't have the funds to drop 10 benjamins for one handbag? We have you covered! Our eyes are ALWAYS peeled for a great deal --because nothing is more satisfying than having a full closet AND a full bank account.
Fergie recently stepped out looking summer-rock-n-roll chic in a skin-hugging Dolce & Gabbana floral print dress, cropped embellished leather jacket and yellow Christian Louboutin heels. She completed the look with over-sized black sunglasses and a simple black clutch.
We love the combination of flowers mixed with a rock edge. This look is also very versatile and could work year around. We're conservatively estimating Fergie's look is coming in around $2500 to $3000 -a stiff number for most ladies out there. Our version comes in around $300 -all style, less cost!
From the runway:
The LWD dominated the spring 2011 ready-to-wear runway shows, most notably Dolce & Gabbana's. Jill Stuart’s take on the LWD included structured silhouettes mixed with ruffles and frills. Azzaro’s show-stopping LWD encompassed a crystal bodice and a tired white silk skirt both united by a large black bow. Monique Lhuillier’s LWD designs were just angelic. Some other LWD designers included Derek Lam, Chanel, and Alexander McQueen (which is in the hands of the deserving Sarah Burton who took over for the late McQueen).
2. For the "everyday" girl: Abercrombie, ‘Kylie’ dress ($68 at Abercrombie)
Fashion moves fast; do not get left behind. The LWD is the season's hottest trend, but it may become your fierce new closet staple.
Fashion designer Tom Mark is the man behind the infamous Mark Wong Nark line. The line, named after his father who passed away 15 years ago, is responsible for clothing stars Tyra Banks, Cameron Diaz and Kim Kardashian. His line has appeared in music videos for Madonna, George Michel and Paula Abdul. Denise Richards dodged bullets while wearing his leggings in the James Bond movie "The World Is Not Enough."
Originally from Thailand, Tom moved to Los Angeles when he was seventeen. His older brother recognized Tom's raw talent and pushed him toward fashion school. Tom enrolled in FIDM and it was there that a designer was born.
Branching out and kicking it up a notch from previous years, STYLE360 made its Fall season debut at a new alternative venue for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Stage37.
