IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Sex and Scandal from NYC to London's Soho

The Lower East Side burlesque club The Box has gone from an exclusive celebrity hotspot where Lindsay Lohan swung down a stripper pole and Kanye West performed to a haven for sex, drugs, and scandals since it opened. But its decreasing popularity in New York hasn't stopped owner Simon Hammerstein from expanding his empire across the Atlantic, opening a new branch of The Box in London's Soho.

The location is inside the old Raymond Revue Bar, another spot known for its risque performances back in its peak popularity in the 195-60s. The venue closed in 2004 when its erotic atmosphere seemed too vulgar for the increasingly mundane, commerical neighborhood that Soho was becoming. Hammerstein has high hopes for his new opening though - after throwing a party for Paul Raymond's granddaughter, he found the crowd to be really "warm and loud" and his original excitement about the project re-emerged.
