There are as many different ways to celebrate Mardi Gras as there are ingredients in a great jambalaya. And whatever vibe you're looking for, whether it's beads and carnies or dinner and drinks, there's a party in New York celebrating Fat Tuesday just the way you like.
This Mardi Gras, the Fifth Annual Two Boots Mardi Gras Ball is the biggest, craziest party in town. Cyndi Lauper and ?uestlove have been crowned King and Queen, and their reign promises to be spectacular. Stiltwalkers, body painting, hatmaking, and at least five live performers, including the all-female accordion orchestra Main Squeeze Orchestra and the Grammy-nominated modern Cajun band The Lost Bayou Ramblers, this is the closest you’ll get to a real Mardi Gras in New York City. Tickets are $35 for one or $60 for two, and all proceeds go to the Lower Eastside Girls Club. Prepare for great cocktails, great music, and a wild spectacle you’ll be talking about for weeks.
Last night, at the luxurious Cipriani on 42nd street, Silver Hill Hospital held their fourth annual Gala event featuring cocktails, dinner, dancing, and a live auction.
Guests were soon ushered to their seats where they were graced with a special performance from Grammy and Tony award-winning musical artist, Cyndi Lauper.
The pop idol didn’t disappoint opening with her song “Fearless” and following up with her classic ballad “True Colors”, but the music didn’t stop there.
Cyndi Lauper, the pop idol that once led a conga line through the streets of NYC, is set to perform at the Silver Hill Hospital Gala. The fourth Fall event will take place at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on Wednesday, November 20th 2013. This year’s Gala will honor longtime supporter and Board Director, Peter Busch Orthwein, and his wife, Beverly, and CNBC anchor, Lawrence Kudlow.
This collection was designed by Kenneth Cole, in conjunction with Kinky Boots costume designer, Gregg Barnes, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Cole's own AWEARNESS, an organization in support of the HRC. Among the three boots in this collection, Cole has recreated the recognizable red high-heeled pumps from the opening scene of the play. Two versions of knee-high boot in either black patent or black & white leopard print will also be available. Kinky Boots by Kenneth Cole will be emblazoned on the heel of every shoe in this collection.
Last week, Hearing Health Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for hearling loss, hosted An Intimate Evening with Cyndi Lauper at B.B. King Blues Club in NYC. Richard Kind served as the comedic MC for the evening and guests enjoyed a silent and live auction, tasty bites and a cocktail reception sponsored by VEEV Liquor. Co-chairs for the evening, Natasha Boucai and Victoria Orlin presented a speech about the foundation and Foundation Executive Director Andrea Boidman talked about the foundation's recently launched Hearing Restoration Project, which aims to find a biologic cure for hearing loss by working on cell regeneration in the ear. A heartwarming tale was shared by Jennifer Harrington, a friend of the foundation, who spoke about her journey with hearing loss.
As the holidays approach many of us go home to our families to enjoy feasts and festivities. It's easy to forget that some people are not as fortunate. This year Stonehenge Partners has teamed up God’s Love We Deliver for the ‘Nuts About Giving’ food drive which includes a 'Thanksgiving Basket Build Day.'
The organization is in need of 8 ounce cans of nuts for their food drive. They have committed to collecting 2,200 cans of these nuts for this year’s Thanksgiving baskets and they need your help to reach that goal. Volunteers are also needed for the Build A Basket Day, which will be held on November 19th in the God’s Love We Deliver West Village facility. Other participants in the drive include Polo Ralph Lauren, Citi Group, American Express, Audi, and Johnson & Johnson.
Cyndi Lauper, born Cynthia Anne Stephanie Lauper, was born on this date in Queens, NY; Gaga, step aside, let us look at a truly outrageous icon. Voted one of the 100 Greatest Women in Rock n' Roll by Vh1, Cyndi has catered to the likes of many artists , and has inspired many pop acts with her bubble gum hit Girls just Want to Have fun in the 80's.
Today, she is in Bridgewater Hall, Manchester promoting her Memphis Blues Album; something far more soulful than the usual pop. No bubble-gum today just cake and champagne.
Speaking of parties, check out the Aspen Social Package on Joonbug's Party planner. Moet Champagne, birthday fiasco and of course Joonbug! Did I mention, Champagne?! ;)
