Art Basel has undeniably become the most important art show in the US, a cultural and social highlight for the America’s, no doubt. And, as it unofficially kicks off today (with the official start this Thursday, December 6th) and the art world descends on Miami, get your party planning hit-list in check with these haute, “culture-atti” filled fetes:
Interview Magazine Party
This invite-only cocktail party is one hot ticket. Taking place on Tuesday, December 4th from 9:30 - 12 midnight at the James Royal Palm Hotel Florida Cookery, see and be scene as you groove to the tunes of DJ Lola Langusta while taking in the arty and gliteratti alike.
Big news has dropped today in the festival circuit: New York’s Governor’s Ball has officially announced its 2012 line up. For those not familiar with the Ball, it’s a two day fest featuring diverse tunes, a myriad of activities, and all the usual shenanigans that accompany any outdoor music festival. Situated on Randall’s Island—stock prison backdrop included—this fest boasts headliners Beck, Modest Mouse, Chromeo, Ducksauce, and Passion Pit (to name a few). Interspersed throughout the two days, the line-up looks fiendishly delicious, with June 23 & 24 shaping up to be quite the weekend.
As 2010 makes it final descend into 2011, it may be time to slow things down and appreaciate the beauty that is South Florida. The weather is changing my friends, embrace it. Let the soft cool breezes flow into your hair. Enjoy the orange sunsets as they fade into the beautiful night sky. Then grab a hoodie and snuggle up in the sand with that special somebody. It’s Monday, the laziest day of the week, so why not ?
Devendra Barnhart - Baby
When I first heard of Devendra, I was shocked by the artistical passion that he displays in his work. Every track has strong meaning and it's not just another song to fill the album. Clearly evident in the song Baby.
Devendra Banhart What Will We Be
Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect
Chuck Prophet Let Freedom Ring!
Creed Full Circle
Mike Epps Mike Epps
Gov't Mule By A Thread
Michael Jackson This Is It
Los Lobos Los Lobos Goes Disney
Brian McKnight Evolution Of A Man
The Mother Hips Pacific Dust
Painkiller Hotel Black Roses
Following the loss of everyone’s favorite drugged up, antic driven British crooner (after writing that I realize that such a category is a bit wider than it should be, so I meant Amy Winehouse) Coachella has added a number of new faces to its bill. Devendra Banhart, the Orb, Chemical Bros., Murder City Devils and Etienne de Crecy join the cast of the mega music festival alongside DJs Flying Lotus, Public Enemy producers the Bomb Squad, Kode 9 and Daedulus.
The tenth annual Coachella festival will be held from April 17th to the 19th at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif. Still headlining are Paul McCartney, the Cure and, a personal favorite, the Killers. Other marquee artists include My Bloody Valentine, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more than 100 other acts. While Winehouse will not make it, her presence will most certainly be embodied by the concert’s alcohol, drug and music induced euphoria.
