Throwing cakes at fans with one hand and donating money to charity with the other, Steve Aoki values his philanthropic work just as much as he does his music. Throughout his entire musical career, Steve Aoki has been involved with a number of charities and non-profit organization, continuously finding ways to give back and volunteer as best he can. Recently, in an effort to combine his two passions, the Dim Mak label head decided to donate $1 of every ticket sold during his Aokify America North American Tour to the health and research organization with the most votes from fans on his Facebook page.
The 'Wild Out (Remixes)' EP will feature a diverse array of artists who took the original track and turned it into their own renditions of club banging, dance-heavy tunes. Big room hitter, Ookay, gives an electrifying spin to his remix while dynamic duo, Riggi & Piros took the track and added a whole new dimension by utilizing darker chords. Grandtheft and Torro Torro joined forces to unleash heavy kick drums and trippy synths. MUST DIE! added his signature dubstep spin to his version, and rising producer, Evan Gartner, who won the 'Wild Out' remix contest, gives the track its proper traptastic drops for all the trapstyle fans out there who won't expect anything less.
Although Dim Mak Records is synonymous with producing cutting edge electronic music today, they had their origins in releasing SoCal style hardcore, punk rock bands when it was first launched by Steve Aoki in 1996. Now more than a decade later, Dim Mak Records is celebrating their 500th release with the 'King Babies' EP from experimental art punkers, The Death Set.
This EP features 4 tracks of entirely new music from NYC-based Austrailian thrashers, The Death Set, exemplifying a cross mix of genres from punk, noise, grunge, and beyond. They epitomize the spirit of Dim Mak of punk, electro and hardcore. You can stream the preview of the 'King Babies' EP below, but the full release will be out on January 21.
Steve Aoki, the ever-jumping, cake-throwing, crowd-surfing DJ/producer behind Dim Mak Records has wasted no time kicking it into high gear for 2014 and shows no sign of slowing down. In keeping with the high energy hype people have come to expect from him, Aoki has announced a three week series of releases through his label, cleverly titled 3OKI.
Included in the schedule of releases are a seven track remix EP for Aoki's collaboration with Linkin Park, 'A Light That Never Comes,' and two new singles. The first is a collaboration with Dim Mak's first hardstyle artist, Coone, and the second features the combined efforts of long time label artist Autoerotique and the dynamic duo that is Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
On January 30th, Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label and AC Slater, the mastermind behind Party Like Us Records, will host the launch of Night Bass at Sound Nightclub in Los Angeles. Recognized as the king of bass heavy house, AC Slater himself will be at the forefront of the madness on opening night alongside Dirtybird producer, Christian Martin. Featuring support from Astronomar, Petey Clicks, and Bones for the opening event, Night Bass will solidify itself as a must-see, major showcasing of late night, bass-crazy talent from all around the world.
DJ & Producer Garmiani (pronounced with a heavy 'G'), is making some serious airwaves in a short span of time. After releasing his first single, 'The City Is Mine,' with Salvatore Ganacci in 2013, he's gained support from fellow artists like Avicii and the track was featured on the Marquee Compilation Album. Steadily gaining momentum, Garmiani continued releasing singles under Dim Mak records like 'Rumble' and 'Dance Motherfucker' which quickly became festival-favorite tracks.
'Volified Riddim' is the debut track for Vato Gonzalez on Dim Mak records. Vato Gonzalez may not be a household name just yet, but his explosive Dirty House style is difficult to ignore. Hailing from the Netherlands, Vato has been in the EDM game since 2007 (before it was widely called 'EDM'), and although Chuckie likes to announce 'Dirty Dutch' at every one of his appearances, Vato can actually be credited as being one of the originators for this genre. Vato released his 'Dirty House Mixtape' back in 2007, garnering major attention towards this new style of music.
But now it's time for Vato to make a global splash into the scene. His track, 'Volified Riddim,' solidifies his Dirty house style with bass pounding tribal beats that are reminiscent of early video games. This track was actually named after the 1989 arcade game, Volified, which explains the inspiration behind this bouncy and electrifying new track.
Listen to Vato's explosive sound below and the track will be released through Dim Mak on January 14th:
London-based alternative band, Scanners, have released the video for their single 'Charmed Life' today (December 19). The mellow track is off of the band's album, 'Love Is Symmetry,' which dropped earlier in the year. The video is haunting, and is predominantly a close-up shot of vocalist Sarah Daly singing in the very grainy, instamatic clip. The chill track is definitely one you should take a listen to. Check out the video below and tell us what you think.
'Love Is Symmetry' is out now on Dim Mak.
