Not long after 8pm, when the drinks were flowing in full swing, hometown heroes The Chainsmokers took the stage and were met with a whole lot of NYC love. The duo, consisting of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, launched right into a happy, high-energy set of The Chainsmokers remixes, originals, and current favorites. They wowed the crowd with their remixes of 'Jealous' by Chromeo and 'Take Me Home' by Cash Cash, and got amazingly positive feedback when they played some new music they've been working on, including an absolutely beautiful collaboration with Adrian Lux. Naturally, things took a turn for the hilariously narcissistic when The Chainsmokers hit the crowd with their insanely popular single, '#Selfie.' A group of people lucky enough to receive their own '#Selfie' held them up high when The Chainsmokers took a group sized '#Selfie' while on stage, before losing the frames, and their minds, to a tremendous trap edit of the iconic track. Needless to say, the crowd was amped up and a chilled out groove was in order.
If you follow electronic music in any way, then you have to have heard of Holy Ship. Countless amounts of pictures and videos of the event have been posted all over social media platforms since it set sail in January, featuring electronic music household names like Skrillex, Diplo, Disclosure, A-Trak, Zedd, Tiesto, Laidback Luke and even Pharrell. Basically, it was every raver's paradise.
Now, two months later, we have been gifted with a recap video that covers the entire 3 day event. Watch the video above to witness what really went down on the now iconic Holy Ship.
Having performed live at the 2014 BRIT Awards just a few hours ago, Disclosure, Lorde and AlunaGeorge's grand spectacle is now on YouTube and ready to break the internet. Word broke out toward the end of January that Lorde and Disclosure had been plotting when the BRIT Awards tweeted a photo of the New Zealand singer, decorated with the Disclosure face.
Lorde, clad in a sparkling black gown, opens up the stage with "Royals." Standing before a large, translucent screen projecting her face, it is impossible not to notice Guy and Howard waiting patiently in the background, preparing to make their grand entrance. By the 50 second mark, the brothers enter the scene by subtly playing "White Noise" beneath Lorde's passionate vocals.
Our first playlist for New York Fashion Week 2014 consisted of an eclectic mix of jazzy tempos from the likes of Gramatik and pop favorites from Lady Gaga to Bruno Mars. This second playlist features a more sultry collection of sexy female--but not limited to--vocals riding deep alongside euphoric basslines. Runway music oftentimes have the quality of being deeply mysterious, alluring and seductive, which are the key factors that helped shape this playlist. Like fashion, old tunes never go out of style. This mix consists of old and fresh new tracks that will have you bumpin' to your playlist en vogue.
Since their debut, Disclosure has shown very innovative and creative takes on all aspects of their career, including their music and image. They took it upon their Facebook page to announce their latest venture, their 'Wild Life' series, which they describe as, "a series of very special shows, that we will play at.. along with friends, DJ's and artists that we admire most within music. It's something we will be taking all over the world, doing both one-off unique shows and events, whilst also bringing it to some of our favourite established festivals and clubs."
The newly formed LA based duo Hotel Garuda, made up of Manila Killa and Candle Weather, knows how to get someone's attention. Their recent rework of Disclosure’s ‘White Noise’ is incredibly captivating. By replacing AlunaGeorge’s vocals with the uplifting and energetic MNEK and throwing in a saxophone sample from Klingande’s ‘Punga’, Hotel Garuda has created an entire different side to ‘White Noise’. After listening to this track a few times, you’ll only be left wanting more. The summery and sexy vibes are infectious.
Naughty Boy is no stranger to collaborating with some of the most lyrically talented artists around-- 'Lifted' featuring Emeli Sande and 'Think About It' featuring Ella Eyre and Wiz Khalifa come to mind. Nor is Naughty Boy averse to letting his songs get some proper remix treatment from artists like Loadstar, TWRK, and others. It makes sense then that a track like 'La La La,' would not only feature the tremendous vocal prowess of Sam Smith, who most people recognize from Disclosure's 'Latch,' but would also get a monstrous remix makeover from the increasingly talented James Egbert.
Every year, the Grammys can always be counted on to be jam packed with some of the most spectacular performances and surprising award wins of the year, and 2014's show was nothing short of just that. This year, the 56th annual Grammy Awards proved to be a celebration of music past, present, and future, with host LL Cool J guiding the night through it's incredibly diverse music collaborations and dynamic performances. It was only right, then, for the Queen B herself, Beyonce, and music mogul husband Jay Z to start the show off right with a slick and sexy performance of 'Drunk In Love' that made sure everybody was going to "be all night."
