You may forget that you are on the quaint country back roads of Bucks County when strolling around these very hip boutiques in Newtown, PA.
Jac's Urbanwear
124 N Sycamore St.
Newtown, PA
215-968-4442
Jac's Urbanwear on North Sycamore St. carries the latest styles straight off the New York show room floors from Free People, Tulle, Gentle Fawn, Tommy Bahama, Maruca and more. The small boutique opened in 2007 and has been carrying denim, dresses, sweaters, jackets, gifts and accessories for those that want something a bit different from the everyday items on the department store racks. Owner Carol McCune sells pashminas for $30, Tulle sweater dresses for $65 and Free People jeans for $68. She carries jewelry from local designers including "Bird on a Wire" creations made by Newtown Borough resident Amy Lusty. Several necklaces and earrings were made by former Anthroplogie designer Gabrielle Hoffman of Wycombe, PA. Hoffman brings the trendy and yet hippy look made famous by the Anthropologie brand straight to the displays at Jac's.
The apparel industry is having a rough time right now, as we were all further reminded by the dismal holiday shopping season. However, there is one market at least that seems to be continuing its growth in spite of the economy: designer children’s wear. It is outperforming even women’s wear divisions.
Reasons cited for its success include plateauing birthrates combined with an increase in career moms with more money to spend as well as an increased desire in women for their children to reflect their own personal style. Philip Lim Kids, Little Ella Moss, John Galliano and Little Marc Jacobs are all top-selling kid’s lines at Barney’s New York. Jean Paul Gaultier plans to develop a kid's line next fall and Burberry will be opening up free-standing children's clothing stores in New York, Hong Kong and Palo Alto, California.
