With all the recent hype about going green and becoming more eco-friendly, often times "going green" may just seem like a fad. That's why it's comforting to actually see an organization, especially one composed of young professionals, that is doing their part in spreading the message and education necessary to foster a new generation in environmental awareness and conservation. Fairchild Palms is the young professionals' networking group of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, which raises money for the Fairchild Challenge, a South Florida-based environmental education and conservation program credited for leading a green revolution in schools nationwide.
Not much of a wine drinker and wish there were beer at some of these wine tastings? Or you simply love both? You’re in luck, because the Fairchild Palms Young Professional Group has just the event for you this weekend. On Saturday, January 29th, Fairchild Palms will be hosting Fine Wine & Upscale Ales at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables from 7:30-11:00 p.m.
This indoor/outdoor evening event will feature a wine and sophisticated beer tasting paired with gourmet cuisine from top local chefs. There will also be a live performance from nationally-renowned Griffin Anthony, as well as a silent auction. All proceeds go to the Fairchild Challenge, an environmental education outreach program that is distributed to schools nationwide.
For all the chocoholics out there, and anyone with a sweet tooth for that matter, the Fairchild’s 5th annual International Chocolate Festival was the place to be this past weekend. The enticing scent of chocolate filled the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden throughout the weekend of January 21st-23rd, as numerous vendors, chefs, and chocolate experts presented chocolate in all its glorious forms to all those who attended.
The festival was filled with displays, food vendors, interactive workshops and demonstrations, as well as lectures- all featuring various forms of chocolate, cocoa, and other yummy sweet treats. Apart from the breathtaking garden views, attendees were greeted with dozens of food tents and activity stations that included massages and chocolate spa mini-treatments, yoga demonstrations, book readings, and even a chocolate cake and cupcake contest. All the while, the indoor Visitor Center featured pastry shops from around Miami and chocolatiers from around the world.
