Last Thursday, New York Fashion Week kicked off with stunning styles and plenty of texture...and we aren't just talking about the clothes. We went behind the scenes at two shows to see the latest runway hairstyles created by L'Oreal Professionnel lead stylist, Joseph DiMaggio.
At Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Joseph styled the hair for Timo Weiland's Women's Fall 2013 collection. The collection played on Baroque texture and military inspired cuts and to emphasive the regality of the collection, the models' hair was styled with center parts that flowed into 's' shaped waves. Joseph describes the look as "feminine tomboy, so it's a little done but it's kind of natural. She's ready for a fun weekend on the British countryside." To create the look, Joseph combined L'Oreal Professionnel Volume Expand Leave-In Spray and True Grip Texturizing Powder and sprayed all over the hair. He then braided the hair and set it into a bun. After a while, DiMaggio took out the bun and created voluminous waves using a flat iron to create 's' shaped waves.
New York City Fashion Week has the globe talking about the latest designer duds. Be head to toe glam not just with your clothes, but with every minor detail right down to your nails. Kiss and Broadway Nails recently launched a new collection from Katie Cazorla, owner of LA Salon, The Painted Nail. There are six new nail dresses which are V-Day perfect. What's so great about Kiss Nails is that they are fun, funky, and super easy to use. For those who don't want to shell out big bucks on fancy manicures, this is a simple solution at just $6.99 per box. You can put the nail stickers on in just minutes (even the clumsy can do it) and they are just as easy to remove. Not to mention, they last up to a week, which is perfect for Fashion Week.
As we saw during February’s Fashion Week, Versace’s fall/winter 2012/2013 collection is filled with leather, studs, and fishnet stockings. The designs along with the harsh bang-lines and cat eye makeup made for a dark, rocker-chic show, and as far as their ad campaign goes, they have just bumped that ambiance up another couple of notches. The combination of model melancholy brilliantly expressed by Elza Luijendijk, photography work by the ultimate duo- Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and Joe McKenna’s styling, made for a dark, gothic-chic ad campaign.
Now, according to a statement via British Vogue, Fashion’s Night Out is going global. Expanding to new continents, multiple countries have announced participation in two or more cities. Italy will hold events in Milan, Rome, and Florence; Berlin and Dusseldorf will join from Germany; and Moscow and St Petersburg will fete in Russia. We’ve seen FNO grow the past three years but for 2012 “bigger and better” is an understatement!
“We are delighted to be supporting the fashion and retail sectors again while highlighting the important role fashion plays in the economy of a country,” said Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue. Last year, “numbers of visitors were exceptional, in particular on Bond Street where visitor numbers were up by 92 percent on 2010,” she added. “Street closures and live performances helped boost attendance and create the mood of a stylish street party.” (WWD)
Runway shows are ushering in new trends reaching far beyond just clothing and accessories, thanks to the insurgence of backstage beauty coverage gaining almost as much popularity as the shows themselves. Hair and makeup, as seen on models from your favorite shows, are gaining space in the limelight and quickly setting trends for the season. Nails too are no exception, and direct re-iterations of clothing trends have been popping up on fingers and toes everywhere.
These designers opted for bold, patterned looks on the nails of the models sent down the runway. From bright color-blocks to graphic creations, this trend runs the gamut with countless options for your creative pleasures.
Besides being the most exciting part about fashion’s changing seasons, Fashion Weeks around the globe are meccas of great style. Sartorial devotees pull out all the stops, dressing to impress fellow style-ites, industry professionals, and celebrated fashion photographers whose photo requests are the highest form of flattery any fashionista could hope for. Layers upon layers were key—modified with glamorous fur, expert print mixing, native inspiration, and fearless color. We’ve rounded up our favorite looks spotted last week as New York’s fashion elated hit the streets at Lincoln Center and beyond.
In our book, Jason Wu is incapable of failing or having a bad collection. It's really just impossible. So our praise for his F/W '12 collection is no surprise to anyone, really. If his Target collaboration collection selling out instantly (to our dismay) is any indication, we're certain we're not alone in this sentiment. Jason Wu's designs are continuously what fashion dreams are made of. A combination of the perfect use of detailing, tailoring, color and fabrics, Wu is a fashion design prodigy. Pure perfection.
So, let us wipe a tear or two for the beauty of his latest collection. We really don't need to say much more. All hail, Jason Wu!
Celebrity fashion designers To-Tam and To-Nya Sachika also known as "The Real Twins of NYC" launched their Fall/Winter 2012 collection. The crowd roared with whistles, "oohs," and "ahs." The collection was most definitely a sight to see!
As the unveiling of IVANKA: "If we ever meet again" began, there was a short film directed by Matias Desiderio. This short film introduced the character of Ivanka, a fictional secret agent-like character whom delves you into a world of action. The runway models each represented a scene of Ivanka's action-packed world thus giving the audience a feel for this character the Sachika twins created. Ivanka is sexy, sultry, beautiful, elegant, strong, and this; friends is exactly what the collection upheld!
