Horse Fatalities on HBO's 'Luck' Further Prompts Ban of NY Horse Carriages

The recent cancellation of HBO's new series Luck, spawned by three consecutive horse deaths during filming, has refueled fires amongst activists working with NY CLASS, an organization which seeks to stop the use of horse-drawn carriages for the unsafe conditions associated with the city's famed hansom cabs. This march, after HBO's decision to cancel Luck, activists working for the organization, aware of the grim realities for animal safety in the horse-drawn carriage industry, voiced this powerful statement in reaction to the premium network's decision to cease production after animals endured harm and were even killed during the filming:

Vampire Sighting in NYC - Alexander Skarsgård

Spotted! Alexander Skarsgård of HBO's True Blood was seen parading around New York yesterday (08/07/11) along with his iPod for company, like most city slickers on the go. He sure does make that T-shirt he's donning look damn lucky...

The 34-year-old actor just recently split with girlfriend Kate Bosworth, but he didn't look too bummed during his appearance on Regis & Kelly last Wednesay where the topic of his, err, clothing-free job in the hit television show came up.

When asked if the frequent nudity in True Blood ever made him nervous, Alexander charmingly responds, "I'm from Sweden...We don't wear clothes in Sweden. Can't you tell how uncomfortable I am?"

TRUE BLOOD
Tarte for True Blood

We've been vampire obsessed since the early days of True Blood, and thankfully, the trend isn't dead yet. With the season premier just around the corner, sink your teeth into Tarte's newest collaboration with the series' award-winning lead makeup artist, Brigette Myre-Elli.

Already a cult favorite, the Natural Cheek Stain by Tarte, $32, is revamped (no pun intended) in the Tarte for True Blood Limited-Edition set. The sparkling red cheek stain blends on smoothly and lasts well into the night, illuminating while giving the cheeks a natural flush of color with mineral pigments and fruit extracts.

Julianne Moore Casts As Sarah Palin

HBO Films announced on Wednesday that Julianne Moore will play the role of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in the adaptation of the 2008 elections adapted from the behind-the-scenes book Game Change, written by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.

Dr. Death Hits the Big Screen

The red carpet was out, the lights were flashing, and the celebs were all pulling up in their SUVs to the Ziegfield Theatre on Wednesday for the premiere of the HBO movie, You Don't Know Jack.

Cast members including Al Pacino, Susan Sarandon, and John Goodman were all in attendence. The biggest surprise of the night was when a car pulled up and out came Dr. Death himself, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, whom the movie is based upon.

For those of you who may not know the background of the story, Jack Kevorkian was a right-to-die activist who aided in the suicides of at least 130 terminal-ill patients. Throughout his lifetime, he has been in and out of jail for his services that were not found illegal in the state of Michigan until 1998 where he publicly aired his assistance of injecting a patient representing voluntary euthanasia. Kevorkian wanted to challenge prosecutors attemping to show that he will not be stopped. However, Dr. Death as he was publicly named, spent 8 1/2 years in jail for second-degree homicide. He was released in 2007 and began to speak out again about his practices.

Eddie Izzard's "Big Intimacy Tour"

Although normally reserved for upcoming musical performances, I feel it necessary to include comedian Eddie Izzard in the list of imminent tour dates. It has been nearly six years since the acclaimed comedy staple has embarked on a stand-up comedy tour and information such as this cannot be ignored.

Eddie Izzard has been a performing stand-up since he was unceremoniously ejected from the University of Sheffield and began working as a street performer during the eighties. He slowly began to grow in notoriety throughout England and eventually took his act to stand-up comedy clubs that began popping up throughout Britain. He continued refining his material and, after several successful comedy tours, he gained noted public appeal as the result of his “Dress to Kill” tour, whose video was regularly run on HBO. Izzard continued performing stand-up, but his growing public demand allowed for a successful transition into other facets of entertainment, including various voice-over projects, numerous roles in major motion pictures, and the lead character of Wayne Malloy on FX network’s defunct drama series The Riches beside co-lead Minnie Driver.

3RD STREET PROMENADE
Taco Tuesdays

Just because Tuesdays tend to be an off-night for going out doesn’t mean that they have to be! I know, I know - working all day can really take it out of you, and for some, staying in, having dinner delivered, and watching HBO sounds perfect. But for the rest of us, a fun happy hour can really help take the edge off. For that reason, Taco Tuesdays proves to be an ideal way to spend a Tuesday evening.

Many Mexican restaurants in the L.A. area have a Taco Tuesday special—cheap tacos, discounted drinks, and an upbeat atmosphere. Because of the extremely reasonable prices, these deals are primarily offered during the typical happy hour time, but the exact times depend on the venue. These early hours are convenient for those who work full-time and embrace both a few hours out on the town to unwind after a long day as well as a good night’s sleep. On the other hand, because the places that offer Taco Tuesday specials tend to be part restaurant and part bar, it’s easy to stay out and keep the night going if you wish to do so.
