It seems one cannot go out these days without either hearing Trap music being played or hearing someone talking about Trap. Even Snoop recently tweeted about it. But as with any new genre, sometimes it can be difficult to understand or define what exactly makes it that new style of music. Enter Atlanta based Heroes x Villains, whose forthcoming documentary Certified Trap explores its history and evolution while covering some of the main figureheads of the emerging genre.
The Duo behind Heroes x Villains -who have been friends and DJ partners since their teen years- released their first mixtape 'We Off That' on Mad Decent in 2010, featuring several of their own electronic dance music remixes of artists Lil Jon, Waka Flocka Flame, Diplo, Gucci Mane, and many others- putting them on top of the game over night. And that description in itself more or less defines what Trap music is; Dirty South Rap (beats) x EDM (synths) x Deep Sub-Bass.
The Fourth of July is going to be hopping at the Waterfront at Pier 92 this year. The 12-hour rooftop beach party will be hosted by Arrival and will feature performances by hip hop artists Lil' Jon and Wyclef Jean. Top electronica DJs will also take the stage, such as Hook N Sling, Ken Loi, Serge Devant, and The EC Twins.
Virgil's Real Barbecue will be serving food along with almost a dozen of the city's best food trucks, including Phil's Steaks and Valducci's Pizza. There will also be tanning decks for those looking to get Snooki-fied, a sand pit for those who wanna get down 'n' dirty, air conditioned cabanas to beat the heat, and an outstanding view of the Macy's fireworks on the Hudson.
VIP terraces are also available to those who wanna do it right. A portion of the proceeds from the events will benefit the Hudson River Park Trust.
So there's electro. There's house. And there's hip hop. And what happens when you throw all three together? Well yes, cacophony, and also, Sidney Samson.
It seems the Dutch aren't just joining Americans in the crusade against prostitution and marijuana. Just last week, Amsterdam native Sidney Samson was reported leaving the studio last week with Black Eyed Peas member Will.I.Am, Lil' Wayne, and Lil' Jon. The first single from their sessions together, "Mutate" will feature Lil' John and will be released on Sidney's label "Rock the Houze" in a few weeks. “It’s amazing to get the opportunity to work with such great artists” Sidney says; “To my surprise, Will had already recorded vocals by Lil Wayne to one of the Hip Hop productions I had sent him."

March in Miami means music! For years now March has been the host of both Winter Music Conference as well as Ultra Music Festival, giving it a monopoly on the Miami music scene. Keeping with this tradition of world renowned DJs gracing the turntables of our favorite late night watering holes during the month of March, Wall Lounge at the W Hotel South Beach is bringing you an all-star lineup every night of the week. At the top of our list? Their Tuesday night party, Favela Beach.
Brought to you by Joonbug and OneFifty, Favela Beach has become an iconic South Beach party, and this month they have truly outdone themselves. Tonight, Tuesday March 1st, they will be kicking off the month with a tribute to the inspiration of the party itself, Brazil. With DJ Ruckus at the helm and the beauties from MEGA Models hosting, you won’t have to go all the way to Rio for an authentic Carnaval celebration. So wear your yellow and green and practice your Portuguese. The following week, Favela will bring you the hottest act for WMC, Louie & Anane Vega. This dynamic duo coupled with special guest performances by Josh Milan and Boddhi Satva will make it the hottest WMC party on the beach.
What's all the commotion? People in the city got quite the surprise this morning outside Madison Square Garden. Cameras were rolling and security took on the intrigued crowd head on. As this joonbugger took to the steps it was clear that a movie was being filmed. If being tested on that assumption, the words 'You're fired!' would have snapped back.
Hello, Donald Trump! The billionaire stepped out from security into a clear line of vision only five feet
away. The hair didn't look too bad but makeup artist, please stop powdering his face. It's not tanning season anymore.
