EDM entertainment group Ministry of Sound is suing Spotify for copyright infringement, claiming that the music streaming service is replicating its playlists. Ministry of Sound has been a huge force in the dance community for its compilations since the 1990s, while Spotify was valued at over 3 billion dollars last year in its attempt to change the way the world listens to music.
Ministry of Sound recently released the highly anticipated Trance Nation album, mixed by the father of trance himself, Lange. Between this and the release of his third artist album at the end of this year, the DJ and producer is staying very busy. Lange took some time to fill us in on the mixing of Trance Nation and the exciting year ahead.
What was your reaction when first presented with the opportunity to mix Trance Nation for Ministry of Sound?
In a little over 12 months, Danny Avila has established himself as one of the biggest contenders in dance music’s prolific pool of next generation talent. The 18-year-old has releases on Big Beat and Interscope and can now add Ministry Of Sound to that list. Just released on April 7th, Ministry Of Sound Presents: Danny Avila Live, a 24-track compilation that features the biggest hits currently blaring through Avila’s sets.
“For me, (this mix) is really, really special,” said Avila, currently on tour in the States. “Ministry of Sound is one of the biggest brands in dance music history and I’ve always loved it. Not only because of the label, but also the club and all the people involved with it. It’s such an honor for me that Ministry asked me to do this compilation.”
