The Lunchbox Auction is an annual event sponsored by Gourmet Magazine to benefit the Food Bank for New York City and The Lunchbox Fund. Celebrities and chefs make and decorate one-of-a-kind lunchboxes that are auctioned off online. Mario Batali and Michael Stipe hosted the kick-off party where guests included Mike Meyers and Julia Stiles.
Host Mario Batali’s lunchbox is definitely unique. His aluminum creation is splattered with pig’s blood, fennel seed, salt, and pepper. And that’s only the outside! If you’re brave enough to crack it open, you’ll find all-natural salted salami casings and a recipe. For some odd reason, bidding for this functional culinary wonder is stalled at $145.
