The Resort 2013 runways were filled with a huge assortment of trends. From wild prints, to cut-out pieces, and leather—designers had fun mixing it up for us. Below we show you some of the hottest trends of the season and how to get the look right now for less!
Though it might not be your first choice for warm weather, leather was all over the runways for Resort 2013. So ease it into your wardrobe as temperatures drop in the upcoming months and it will be your go-to trend to hold you over between Fall and Spring. We saw this tough textile make appearances in shorts, shifts, and even short sleeve shirts.
After establishing a much sought-after ready-to-wear line, Rachel Roy, and seeing the success of her Rachel Rachel Roy diffusion line, the designer is ready to tackle the next fashion frontier: a footwear line.
“Here’s the thing about me and shoes....I really feel like it’s the one item that, no matter how much you make, it is worth saving your pennies for," offers Roy in a statement to WWD. Further, the designer adds, “I don’t want shoes unless they are strong and sexy. I don’t want them to be just strong or just sexy...my collection is just that - strong and sexy. It represents the woman I want to be.”
After a seemingly never-ending period of hemlines inching ever-upwards, one of fall's key trends offers the skirt in a length that's more conservative but just as dynamic. The midi skirt, hitting just below the knee or mid-calf, feels decidedly ladylike but somehow modern, and designers are offering a variety of silhouettes to make this look accessible to all.
ASOS offers a number of midi skirts, including this universally flattering Midi Skirt with Pleat Waistband that comes in three colors. With its a-line and high waist, this classically feminine piece priced at an affordable $60 is a great option that can be worn for seasons.
I’m one of those people who don’t really get star struck. OK let me rephrase that -at least I don’t jump when I see a reality TV star walking down the street or pull out my blackberry to tweet a picture when I spot a celebrity shopping. But I do feel my throat drying up when I meet a talented designer. Especially one I admire -like Rachel Roy! So when I found out she and Karina Petroni were doing an event at Macy's in Boca Raton, FL to introduce their limited edition footwear capsule collection, I knew I had to be there.
I was fortunate enough to meet her as well as chat with her about the collection, inspiration and her motivation.
Winter is officially over, so really, there's no need for those dreary black clothes anymore. (Uh-hm, New York?) Yes, we're guilty of too much black as well, so don't feel bad. Memorial Day weekend starts tomorrow so now is the perfect time to spring into summer with a lighter wardrobe.
We're not saying you have to swear-off black completely, but it's getting far too warm and lovely for all the darkness. It's time to add pastels to your rotation -stat! Soft yellows, pinks, lavenders, sky blues and mint green should be finding a place in your closet right about now. It's all about flowy, girly, light and sheer fabrics.
This Spring, one of our favorite base colors is navy. What we'll define as a base color is something that brings all those bright hues we're expecting this Spring and Fall into focus. Too often, without something solid to ground such colors as neon green, safety orange, fuchsia, and lime yellow, it could quickly become hazardous or at least warn others off.
We took a look at designer Rachel Roy.
Note the electric blue, the teal, and violet basics she uses. Now substitute navy blue for either of the colors. You get the same excitement but it adds a little something more. Whoa! We just noticed that if you look closely enough at the model’s shoes, Rachel had the same idea!
May your bright be complimented by your dark and always provide yourself a little silver lining.
