IN THE HOUSE
8 House Music Songs You Rarely Hear

Often times it's hard to believe there was a time before our house music. When music festivals were one weekend and everyone jammed out in General Admission. Before it exploded and when it was just a small "underground thing." The entire genre has evolved over time taking on many different forms but it's an absolute must to go back to it's roots. From the disco days to the early 90s when house started making it's way over to the states. We've rounded up 8 songs that aren't exactly your hard hitting, bass-in-your-face, typical progressive house. These songs can be easily defined as the epitome of what house music really was.

1. Joachim Garraud- Are U Ready (Laidback Luke Remix)

2. Dirty South vs. Evermore- It's Too Late

HAPPENINGS
Pre-Oscar Red Carpet Brunch at Ajna Bar

Derek and Daniel Koch of Dual Groupe will collaborate with Aurelia Group for a Day & Night Gold Standard Brunch on February 25 from 2:00 pm to 7:00pm at Ajna Bar (formerly Buddha Bar), with glamorous Red Carpet functions preceeding the excitement.

Proceeds from the ticket sales for this pre-Oscar themed brunch will benefit the American Cancer Society, fighting cancer through research, outreach, and treatment with more than 12 chartered divisions and 900 local offices nationwide. The event will feature a lavish, “5 star, white glove” gourmet brunch courtesy of Moet &Chandon, Krol Vodka, and Source Water, in addition to a live music set by Madonna’s Official DJ, Grammy-nominated producer Tracy Young, and resident DJ Claudius Raphael. Though this event has usually been invite-only, limited amounts of tickets have been released for sale to the general public.

THIS JUST IN
Pamella Roland F/W '12 with Carmen Kass & Maria Menounos

Pamella Roland debuted her fall/winter 2012 collection amidst a winter wonderland at Lincoln Center last night. The red-carpet-ready designs featured colors from subdued neutral tones to shimmering silver and emerald. One ever present element was luxurious fabrics and a lot sparkle. The collection was quite versatile, with varying patterns and cuts --there were no two pieces that looked alike, which was refreshing. We especially loved the designs with sheer high necklines and dropped waists.

Her use of embellishment added just the right touch without looking gaudy or overdone. Her cocktail dresses were equally as exciting as her full length gowns, and would be a great black tie alternative for those who opt for shorter hemlines.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Light Up and Kick Back at Havana

Havana Social Club and Cigar & Rum Bar is small and cozy with a Cuban vibe that makes you feel like you’re somewhere exotic. The gentlemen dress to impress and the females’ hotness peak on the Kardashian scale. The staff serves up the celebrity treatment - with the red carpet, the cameras, and all. The managers greet each guest by introducing themselves, lighting cigars, and pouring drinks. The drinks aren’t outrageously priced (but aren’t cheap either); however, the bartenders serve them each with a gracious smile. The DJ doesn’t slow up one bit with the constant rotation of the top 40’s and he doesn’t hide behind the barrier of the DJ booth. He is all about connecting with the crowd, even inviting me up to check out his playlist and give him feedback.

Golden Globes: Ending It With Our After-Thoughts

Let's all take a moment to review what really happened at this year's Golden Globes awards: everyone had a choice of vintage, Brian Atwood pumps, and Roger Vivier accessories - well, not everyone, but certainly the majority.

The ultimate conclusion: no celebrity, or their stylist for that matter, can put together a stunning red-carpet look anymore. Though, many don't seem to have a problem blaming the outcry of designers opting not to participate too much this year. Tsk-Tsk!

ACADEMY AWARDS
It’s Official, Awards Season Has Begun

Golden Globe nominations were announced early this morning in Beverly Hills marking the official beginning of awards season. As exciting as it is to see which actors and actresses win accolades and are acknowledged for their performances, if you are like me, you're really just in it to see who is wearing what.

This year Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Cate Blanchett are a few of the big screen actresses to look for on the red carpet. Discover what trends will emerge, whose sense of style will catapult her as one to watch and who will gamble and lose with risky fashion choices. Red Carpet moments that answer questions like these are practically more exciting than the award shows themselves. I can’t wait.
