An Intimate Evening with Cyndi Lauper

Last week, Hearing Health Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for hearling loss, hosted An Intimate Evening with Cyndi Lauper at B.B. King Blues Club in NYC. Richard Kind served as the comedic MC for the evening and guests enjoyed a silent and live auction, tasty bites and a cocktail reception sponsored by VEEV Liquor. Co-chairs for the evening, Natasha Boucai and Victoria Orlin presented a speech about the foundation and Foundation Executive Director Andrea Boidman talked about the foundation's recently launched Hearing Restoration Project, which aims to find a biologic cure for hearing loss by working on cell regeneration in the ear. A heartwarming tale was shared by Jennifer Harrington, a friend of the foundation, who spoke about her journey with hearing loss.

National Urban Technology Center 2011 Gala

Last Tuesday, a gala benefit for National Urban Technology Center, a national non-profit dedicated to helping provide technology for underserved youth with programs in over 700 schools across America, be honored NBA legend John Starks, with a Humanitarian Award. The 2011 Urban Tech Humanitarian Award acknowledges the work of John Starks and the John Starks Foundation as advocates for change. Both the man and the foundation strive to provide under-served youths with positive opportunities, including academic scholarships. Other honorees at this event include Jessica Isaacs, and Ramon Gonzalez. Maurice Dubois served as the emcee, while other celebrities such as Dennis Walcott, Dominic Fumusa, Richard Kind, Callie Thorne, Nadia Dajani, Steven Byrd, and more were all in attendance. The gala took place at Capitale, with a cocktail reception at 6pm, followed by dinner, the awards ceremony, and a live & silent auction at 7:30pm.

Broadway Never Tasted So Good

Later this month, join Off-Broadway’s The Play Company for an evening of entertainment and food prepared by chefs from NYC’s top restaurants. Cabaret Gourmet 2009 begins at 7PM on Monday, April 27 and takes place at the American Airlines Theater Penthouse on 227 W. 42nd Street.

The event will be hosted by Broadway star Richard Kind, and theater star Karen Akers is set to perform. While they perform, you get the opportunity to sample epicurean dishes prepared by some of the most well-known chefs from around the Big Apple, including David DeCarlo from Angus McIndoe, Jehangir Mehta from Graffiti, Nancy Olson from Gramercy Tavern, Mickey Price from Market Table and Josh Eden from Shorty’s 32.
