In the wake of Toshi's Living Room's tremendous popularity and success, hotelier, Robert "Toshi" Chan has recently announced the imminent opening of Toshi's Penthouse Bar & Rooftop, which rests above the swanky Flatiron Hotel. Here at Joonbug, we had the pleasure of enjoying live music at Toshi's Living Room after it had recently opened. We can expect the same comforting and cheerful atmosphere evoked by Toshi and his staff when Toshi's Penthouse Bar & Rooftop opens this May, just in time for those hot summer soirees.
As most of you can already tell, we’re pretty big fans of rooftops in the summertime. What’s not to like about them? They provide breathtaking views of the city and give you a hiatus from the chaos below. We’ve seen rooftop bars, pools, and now there’s another activity to add to the fun up above: movie screenings.
From the rooftop of a market to a high school, the range of selected venues will keep it interesting. The movies shown in this series are not typical either. Their genres widely vary, thus encouraging diverse audiences each time. If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out the schedule here.
In the summertime we just can’t get enough of rooftop lounges! Good news, there’s a new one to add to the lineup: Soaked at Mondrian SoHo.
Unlike other rooftops that have a city-chic atmosphere (which we love), this unique hotspot has a serene country feel (which we also love). Covered with lively green turf, plants, and décor, it has a very refreshing ambiance.
The menu could not be more suited for the setting. To complement the summer vibe, Soaked offers fruit infused liquor and liquor infused fruit. We love it! Nothing says it’s summer like tropical fruit and a cold beverage, especially when they’re combined!
New York tourists, commuters, and residents alike can all agree that Times Square’s appeal is undeniable. They can also agree that it has lacked an outdoor refuge to enjoy it from- until now. Haven, located atop the Sanctuary Hotel, offers 2,500 square feet of outdoorsy yet modern bliss. Guests can enjoy an array of tropical cocktails in the $15 range. One that sounds particularly inviting to us is the Starlight, consisting of Grey Goose Le Citron vodka, fresh kiwi, and vanilla bean. Once in full swing, Haven will also offer a food menu for patrons to enjoy. Take a look at the pictures, we absolutely love the lounge’s décor!

After a few false starts, Jones, San Francisco’s largest sustainable indoor/outdoor rooftop bar, lounge, and restaurant, has reopened. Located atop a modernized 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival building and lushly decorated with tropical plants, Jones features an expansive, architecturally sophisticated 8,000 square foot heated terrace that looks down upon an incredible view of the city. With a wonderful French-Californian menu conceived by San Francisco's Oola chef, Ola Fender, and amazing cocktails to boot, including Kensington Zinger, made with ginger-jalapeño syrup, gin, ginger beer and lemon, San Frantastic, an elderflower liqueur, muddled strawberry, lemon juice, and blood-orange vodka cocktail, and NY Sour, a concoction of bourbon, lemon juice, sugar, egg and red wine, this is one Jones family you won't mind having as neighbors.
OK Go will be performing a free concert on the rooftop of the SF Art Institute in North Beach on Saturday, February 5th. Only the first 800 people in line will get wristbands to the show, so arrive early. The event will begin at 3:30 PM and concert doors open at 5:30 PM.
North Beach won the first ever Yahoo Bus Stop Derby, and will host a free block party in addition to the concert. There will be carnival games, free popcorn/hot cocoa, and street food for purchase. This event is part of Yahoo's promotional campaign for their new mobile apps. Go here for more details.

At ground level 230, Fifth looks like any other Flatiron office building, but the penthouse lounge on the 20th floor is anything but ordinary. This 8,000 square foot lounge that can entertain up to 1,000 guests, is decorated by owner Steven Greenberg, of Studio 54 and Palladium fame. It has a distinct 80s vibe with purple fluorescent lights, giant kiss-shaped couches and floor to ceiling windows. However, the lounge is not the attraction here. Upstairs sits a gorgeous rooftop garden and bar that is open all year round.
