What a coincidence it is that two of our absolutely favorite times of the year are so close together: New York Fashion Week and St. Patrick’s Day ! It may not seem to you that the two go hand and hand, but you would be surprised. How so? Well, although green was not the "IT" color of Fashion Week, we identified the most fashionable shade of green with Pantone as Cypress green. This gorgeous ethereal color appeared on over half of our runway shows and is going to be popping up in our fave stores all over the place. We love this color; it looks so sophisticated and elegant. Cypress the most trend setting gorgeous way to sweeten up your wardrobe and get ready to show off your Irish pride (real or fake!).
The atmosphere was relaxed ,close and real as we attended Manufactures Launch NYC Couture and Demi-Couture show last night. The wide white runway intrigued while a sea of writers, fashionistas, stylists and designers washed in from the cold streets into the fashion refuge. Amongst the chatter... the lights dimmed and flooded back up on the optic white stage as the show began.
And wow what a show...
Minnoji started the show with ready to wear military inspired womenswear. We love the expertly tailored jackets! Each model wore a headpiece with a patent leather look and a viking style piece protecting the bridge of their nose. Under the jackets were simple draped dresses and models wore chunky black shoes. The models walked with less poise and a much edgier atmosphere, reinventing the fashion industries stereotype. As seen in earlier award show trends, the looks were all neutral colors , specifically black and white and contrasts between soft and hard. As the show continued , an element of surprise with a softer skirt with slits and a maroon tweed sweater - there were still elements fo hard and soft with leather panels and sleeves. Gorgeous!
Reining it in from past seasons of embellished brights and quirky colors, ready-to-wear is taking back black and white is tagging along for the ride. Jil Sander and Narciso Rodriguez class it up, while other top designers like Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang move toward the edgier side of the contrasting colors.
This past Monday Nolcha Fashion week featured many incredible designers, ranging from "Carrie Parry" to "Afia". Don Q Rum made another appearance along with Kiss, KROMA natural makeup, and Paul Mitchell. There were three different fashion shows which featured new designers. I attended the most glamorous, elegant, third session at 7PM.
The 7pm Runway show featured newly launched designers and jewelry accessories from Maleku (which were amazingly beautiful). Here's a recap of the amazing indie designers we got a first look at:
Beautiful Planning Marketing & PR presents their first annual "The Reality of FASHION The Reality of AIDS" event that will take place September 8th in New York City. Reality Stars will join forces and walk the runway for this amazing, philanthropic event.
All of the proceeds will benefit AIDS United, an organization that works to fund AIDS nonprofits throughout the U.S. The fundraising goal for the evening is $300,000+, and we need your help to achieve this goal!
And here is the fun part... Models Are Needed!
In December 2010, an unofficial version of the "Monster" music video by Kanye West was unleaked on the internet. The titillating video courted much controversy as the content contained rather grotesque scenes, with dead models hanging from nooses and other bizarre spectacles that seemed to promote torture and 'monster-esque' activities. The video was eventually deemed too offensive to post on most sites and West removed it from his website shortly after issuing an apology, but still received mass attention and millions of views.
The Beachy Waves - Kick Summer into gear with these fresh-from-the-beach waves. Using a one inch curling iron, wrap one inch strips of your hair around the barrel. When you finish, flip your hair upside down and brush them out with your fingers.
The Exaggerated Side Part - Whether you curl it, straighten it or ponytail it, this extreme side part is versatile.
The Punky Pixie Cut - If you’re ready to make a drastic change. Leave some length on top, and long side swept bangs to add a touch of femininity.
This month in W magazine was full of interesting articles about actors and actresses, and oddly enough freezing your fat as a form of liposuction. But freezing your way skinny isn't what caught my attention. The first was a pair of Char Har Lee shoes. I've never seen something so glamorous, so elevated, so dangerous. It's like wearing a 007 agent on your feet. I digress. These shoes are simply brilliant, unless they turn double spy on you and cause you and your ego to topple.
