Anytime we’re having a bad day or the weather is too cold or we’re daydreaming at work…the first place we long to go to is the beach. Frozen mango margarita in hand, waves crashing at our feet, white sand beneath our toes, a perfect breeze under sunny skies, and a figure-flattering bikini, hugging us in all the right places. Ugh, someone fly us somewhere tropical ASAP! In honor of the bikini's 65 year anniversary (not to mention the countdown to summertime!) here's a look at the short history of our favorite swim style.
However, years and years ago a day on the beach was not associated with a day in a bikini. Not even a century ago, there was just one design to choose from: the figure stifling swimsuit. So you can only imagine our historical counterparts' surprise when two men, French engineer Louis Reard and fashion designer Jacques Heim, revealed the world’s first bikini. Dubbed “smaller than the world’s smallest swimsuit” there is no doubt that the design was as shocking as it was risqué!
Just when you thought models and musicians could finally have a happily-ever-after aside from David Bowie & Iman...tsk tsk.
One of the entertainment industry's most beautiful couples have called it quits after two years of dating. Maroon 5 frontman & The Voice judge Adam Levine, 33, and 8-time Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna, 26, have split according to her rep confirming with People magazine.
The solution to Adam's break-up blues? Perhaps a little rebound with another Anne...a writer of some sorts, with lots of witty pop culture commentary experience & talent...alright, never mind.
This upcoming week is a big one for sports. It starts off with Super Bowl Sunday and ends with the beginning of the Olympic Games, but there's something in between that will add a much needed dash of sexy to this very testosterone driven time.
Next Tuesday is the unveiling for the brand-new, coveted Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition and lucky for us, they've chosen Las Vegas as the place to celebrate.
Meat Packing
It's a Thursday. I’m trying to get off the couch because it's already been a long week. Then, the incentive to get motivated comes in the form of a text message from Jessica White. Sport Illustrated models always get me motivated. She’s in town, bored and wants to hangout. My response? I’m in! She’s staying at the Standard Hotel. I offer to pick her up because I haven’t been there yet and I’m curious. The hotel lobby is small and there is a cute little bar that services the lobby. I’m sure there’s more to come. Mean while, Ms. White has me waiting 20 minutes. Jeez… I love it!
Topping off Maxim magazine’s annual “Hot 100” list of the world’s most beautiful women is Olivia Wilde. If you’re like me and have never heard of her, it turns out she stars in Fox’s House, and the magazine’s editors say they can’t stop drooling over her. In second place is the obvious Megan Fox, followed by Leonardo di Caprio’s girlfriend Bar Refaeli, who graced the cover of this year’s Sport’s Illustrated “Swimsuit Issue”.
