Philadelphia singer, Res is making her way back into the music scene as a solo artist. She gained recognition in 2001, when she released her debut album How I Do on MCA Records and peaked at number one on The Billboard Dance Chart with hit single "They Say Vision." After parting ways with her label, Res is back and ready to rebuild her career as an indie artist. Currently, the singer has joined forces with longtime collaborater Talib Kweli on their hip-hop/electro project, Idle Warship.
Earlier this year, rap veteran Talib Kweli released the solo album Gutter Rainbows, a title inspired by Catcher in The Rye, which was completely self-financed and independent of the mainstream record industry. Kweli is known for chasing the thrill of a new project where ever and whenever it might come up, and to keep with his chameleon style, he recently announced his plans to follow up Gutter Rainbows with another album before the year is over.
Prisoner of Conscious is Kweli’s next project in the making and the collection is rumored to be something of an extremely late sequel to 2007’s Ear Drum. So far there’s been word of guest features from his Black Star partner Mos Def, as well as top dogs Curren$y, Kendrick Lamar, Jean Grae, Maino, and uh, randomly, Nelly?
This year's Rock The Bells 2011 lineup is absolutely ridiculous, in the best sense of the word. From seminal artists like Lauryn Hill, Nas, Raekwon, Cypress Hill, and Ghostface, to up-and-coming heads like Mac Miller, this epic lineup is inducing permanent goosebumps. This four-city run festival may just be the greatest hip-hop festival of the year.
Last summer Rock The Bells featured several headliner artists who performed their most legendary albums in their entirety for the first time in the history of hip-hop entertainment. Such artists included Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Wu-Tang Clan. This year the traditional will continue with Ms. Lauryn Hill performing her multi-platinum, multi-Grammy winning album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Nas performing his iconic debut album Illmatic with special guests AZ, Pete Rock, and DJ Premier. That act alone will be far and beyond mind blowing. Want more? You got it. Also set to perform full album sets are Cypress Hill, Mos Def & Talib Kweli (Black Star), and Raekwon & Ghostface. Summer madness has officially commenced.
