Lupita Nyong’o poses with Rihanna, and cozies up to Jared Leto!
Still fresh from her Best Supporting Actress win at the Academy Awards this past Sunday, fashion trend setter, Lupita Nyong’o made some time to land in France for Paris Fashion Week where she was spotted at Miu Miu’s 2014-2014 runway show. The Hollywood “it girl” also made some time backstage to pose for press with fellow fashionista Rihanna.
With Ellen as host, and a list of nominees so impressive, Oscar night 2014 was set to be a fabulous affair, and it did not disapoint. Filled with all the right amounts of laughter, sap, and pizza, the show pulled on our heartstrings, inspired us, and even whet our appetites.
As always, Glam Damn It kept a watchful eye on the fashion, noting all the successes and cringing at the failures. Although there were hundreds of contenders, here are our top and bottom choices from the night.
Sarah Jessica Parker played an iconic NYC fashionista on Sex and the City, inspiring us to dress fabulously like it's our job! The best news came with the launch of SJP's own shoe line! The SJP collection has a fitting name - SJP!
SJP was already photographed opening the store on Wednesday and we are so excited!
“This vision felt like a mere dream five weeks ago,” said Parker to WWD's Footwear News earlier this week. “The best part is having Nordstrom be enthusiastic about this particular brand and collection.”
Burberry Prorsum awakened its inner hippie with a nod to bohemian chic. Aptly titled The Bloomsbury Girls, the collection was fashioned as a love letter to the brilliant minds of London’s past. Designer Christopher Bailey immersed each piece in heart and soul.
“Basically, walls, furniture, fabric, anything that moved, they painted it!” he said.
Following suit, trench coats and handbags were hand painted like canvas. Scrolls of flowers cascaded down the flanks of countless layers that would put Jason and his Technicolor Dream Coat to shame. No two pieces were alike.
What a coincidence it is that two of our absolutely favorite times of the year are so close together: New York Fashion Week and St. Patrick’s Day ! It may not seem to you that the two go hand and hand, but you would be surprised. How so? Well, although green was not the "IT" color of Fashion Week, we identified the most fashionable shade of green with Pantone as Cypress green. This gorgeous ethereal color appeared on over half of our runway shows and is going to be popping up in our fave stores all over the place. We love this color; it looks so sophisticated and elegant. Cypress the most trend setting gorgeous way to sweeten up your wardrobe and get ready to show off your Irish pride (real or fake!).
New York City hummed with palpable electricity as legions of fashion fiends swarmed the tents at Lincoln Center to behold the collections built on blood, sweat and glitter. This was New York Fashion Week.
The intrigue of Alexander Wang’s collection enticed fashionistas to schlep down to Brooklyn’s Navy Yard, far from the chaos of Manhattan. Complete with a spinning runway, Wang dazzled with his dramatic flair.
Models were unrecognizable with icy stares, bleached brows and slick-straight wigs, which reflected the androgynous overtones of the show. They marched down the runway in utilitarian dresses with rows of pockets for things you never knew you needed. Wang played with gender bending in menswear-inspired frocks. Billowing slacks hid under oversized coats with massive lapels that veiled any trace of womanly curves.
Many a fashion aficionado took note of the Mercedes-Benz F/W 2014 collections shown during February 6-13th at Lincoln Center. Joonbug was there to soak in all of the fashion, excitement, celebrity spotting and socializing during the week!
Here we spotlight a few of our fashionable favorites. Fear not - high boots, faux fur and floppy hats are still en vogue next season.
We observed the BCBG show from the proverbial eye in the sky in the AMEX Skybox at Lincoln Center. Having experienced Fashion Week from various rows and locations, the AMEX Skybox allows you to take the show in while sitting in style. Amenities include champagne, cocktails, food, and celebrity guests. The BCBG Collection featuring sleek lines, ponchos, color-blocking, high boots and 70's flair, was both wearable and flirty. Guest speakers such as Joe Zee (Elle Magazine), Steven Kolb (CFDA), and Tadashi Shoji are known to interact with the AMEX Skybox guests for exclusive Q&A's.
Nolcha held its very own award-winning Fashion Week event at Chelsea Piers over the week. In their closing event, the purpose of Nolcha Fashion Week was made important for for designers Nina Athanasiou, Dany Tabet, Jungwon, and Gabrielle Arruda. Our first glimpse of these budding artists came when the lights went down and the spotlight flashed on.
