The 2014 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, was held last night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Let’s take a look back at some of the most talked about moments from the show as well as the full list of winners.
Show Opening/Conan’s Monologue: The show opened with O’Brien wanting to get 50 celebrities to make cameo appearances. He achieved his goal with a wide range of celebrities including Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Sandler, the cast of The Big Bang Theory, Taylor Swift, Andy Samberg, Mindy Kaling and even Grumpy Cat. During his monologue, O’Brien showed the audience some Vine videos of the movies nominated for Movie of the Year and also created a new category, Best Kiss Fight, which included Will Arnett and O’Brien fighting and throwing kisses at each other.
But the question remains: will Colbert continue to play his character on the Late Show, or will he be, well, himself?
Colbert’s Comedy Central persona is already similar to his real-life person, from his affinity for The Lord Of The Rings to being raised in South Carolina. But the humor is largely contained in the cluelessness of his political beliefs, and that could be lost, as the Late Show is guest-centric and significantly less political than Colbert’s own show. Not to mention Letterman is a staple of late night television, and filling his shoes would be hard enough on someone who hasn’t spent more than ten years playing a part.
But Colbert’s fans know they’re in good hands! Colbert is a talented speaker and a natural comic, and his most devoted have no doubts that he is the best man for the job. We can’t wait until 2015!
Chelsea Handler will end her E! show Chelsea Lately when her contract expires at the end of the year. While being interviewed by Howard Stern on March 5th, Handler said that E! is, “a sad, sad place to live,” and that, “They don’t know what they’re doing. They have no ideas. It’s a failure.”
Handler’s manager, Irving Azoff, told The Hollywood Reporter, “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E!. We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.” Those "many ideas" include a possible radio show or another show on a different network.
Her latest book Uganda Be Kidding Me was recently number one on The New York Times best-seller list and she is currently on a stand-up comedy tour in support of the book.
@ColbertReport, an official Comedy Central twitter account not controlled by Stephen Colbert or The Colbert Report, released a tweet on Thursday that has spurred the Internet to rage. The tweet in question reads: “I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.” The line was an exact quote from the show, but was tweeted without the context it had on the program, where it had been framed explicitly as a reaction to the creation of the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation.
The Walking Dead finale is no doubt going to be the biggest social media event of the month (besides The Oscars, obvs). In December, more than 12 million people tuned in to watch the promised final showdown between tormented paladin, Rick Grimes, and everyone’s favorite Cyclopsed psycho, The Governor. And more than 15 million tuned in to watch when the second half of the season resumed in February.
If you're starting to feel left out of all The Walking Dead hype, and you want in on some of this finale action without the Netflix commitment required, we want to help get you up to speed! Here is a list of everything you need to know if you don’t know anything about The Walking Dead.
Step 1: Wrap up your binge re-watch of the TV show. Remember all the good times and the not-so-good times. Try and fail to steel yourself against the nostalgia.
Step 2: Agonize over the clock as you finish your Veronica Mars-less work or school day. Don't they realize what today is?
Step 3: AVOID THE INTERNET. (Other than Joonbug.com, of course.) You've waited seven years for this, don't let one sloppily tagged tumblr gif spoil it!
Step 4: All of those friends you turned on to the show? That pays off now. Collect all your marshmallows around you and brace for impact.
Step 5: Start the movie. Try not to freak out over how grown up everyone is.
Step 6: Spend all night talking about how awesome the movie was. Start a Kickstarter for the sequel.
His character, Burke, was a fan favorite in the early seasons of Grey's, particularly because of his relationship with Sandra Oh's character, Christina. Their relationship and his sudden departure left a deep impact on the at-the-time cultural juggernaut, and that moment probably remains the show's cultural peak. (Remember when Grey's Anatomy could make radio hits by including songs in their closing montages? The Fray remembers.) So it's not a complete surprise that as Sandra Oh's character leaves the program, they're revisiting Washington's character, for plot- and publicity-based reasons.
The first trailer for Lindsay Lohan’s new reality show, set to air on OWN has made its debut. The show titled, Lindsay, follows the actress as she tries to get her life back on track after her latest stint in rehab.
The trailer shows the actress moving from Los Angeles to New York City and discussing her former partying lifestyle. “There's nothing left in having a drink for me. What's left in that feeling? Nothing. There's no party that I haven't gone to, there's no person I haven't hung out with. There's no situation I haven't been exposed to,” Lohan says in the trailer.
With the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars set to premiere on Monday March 17th on ABC, the latest rumors of who will be making their way to the ballroom is making its way around the internet.
E! News is reporting that Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes and Full House star Candace Cameron Bure will be part of the upcoming cast. Bruce Jenner has also reportedly been in talks to join the show for the upcoming season as well.
Besides having a new cast, the show will also have a new co-host as Brooke Burke-Charvet recently announced she would not be returning to the show. This season, Tom Bergeron will be joined by FOX Sports reporter, and season 10 contestant, Erin Andrews
