If you were lucky enough to score the last of the tickets to Village Voice’s 6th-Annual Choice Eats extravaganza yesterday you've instantly become the envy of all your foodie friends. This year’s event features over 50 restaurants and sweet treats handpicked by resident Village Voice food critics, Robert Sietsema and Tejal Rao. The participating restaurants represent the hidden gems of the dining scene that are scattered around the Metropolitan area. Choice Eats also highlights foods from over 35 countries that some diners may have otherwise not had the opportunity to sample with cuisines ranging from Uzbekistan to Tunisia. Restaurants and sweets in attendance at this year’s event include Dirt Candy, Luke’s Lobster, No. 7, Nom Wah Tea Parlor, Carlo’s Bakery, Del Pesto, and more.
Calling all foodies! The Village Voice has just announced it's sixth annual tasting event, Choice Eats, will be held March 19th, 2013 at the 69th Armory on Lexington Avenue. Choice Eats is one of the city's most unique food events, which brings together top restaurants from all over the city all under one roof. Last year, the event featured over 80 restaurants from 35 different countries, which were handpicked by The Village Voice's food critic Robert Sietsema. Tickets are going on sale January 16th and are sure to sell out quickly. Nab yours here when the time comes for $50-$80.
The Village Voice, infamously known for orchestrating a music festival for New Yorkers each year, is delivering once again. On Saturday, July 14th, 4Knots Music Festival kicks off for a second year at South Street Seaport piers 16 and 17.
The event ends at 8pm, but that doesn’t mean the festivities will stop completely. Tickets to the afterparty are available here, a bash which DJ Jonathan Toubin is set to host. Special performances will include DJ April March and go go dancer Ana Copa Cabanna. Did we mention there will be a limbo contest? Sold.
PS, In case you were curious, or perhaps a trivia junkie, the name “4Knots” comes from "the speed of the water as it moves through New York's East River at the South Street Seaport".
Tonight from 6:30 - 9:30pm, the Village Voice will host their fifth annual Choice Eats curated tasting event at the 69th Armory on Lexington Avenue. The long-awaited event will feature over eighty handpicked restaurants featured in The Village Voice and Fork in the Road blog, from all five boroughs. Guests can also expect complimentary craft beer pairings and wine and liquor beverages.
First Course blogger Elisabeth Rosario had the opportunity to chat with Village Voice food critic Lauren Shockey (@ldshockey) on what we can expect at this year's event as well as some tips on how to make the most of it!
As the last few hours of ‘08 dwindle down, the new year has many possibilities, both good and bad, and some are already making their bold predictions for 2009. Eater asked a handful of industry types and bloggers what they expected in the New Year. Most view the economic hardships brought on by the recession as sign of things to come. William Tiggert of Freemans predicts, “Over 40% of NYC restaurants will close as the economic crisis deepens.” Others have a different outlook, like Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit, who views “the report of restaurants’ demise (to be) greatly exaggerated.” Ed Levine of Serious Eats offers “no headlines, just a prayer for all the ridiculously hard-working chefs and restaurateurs, both in NYC and the rest of the country.”
