Newport Beach. Benihana. Women's Studies. Bruce Lee. All you need for the making of an international superstar DJ.
Introducing Steve Aoki, who returns later this month to satisfy a voracious Vegas with his monthly residency at XS Nightclub. The Newport-beach raised Aoki is no stranger to entrepreneurial endeavours; coming from the family that founded the Japanese cuisine chain Benihana, Aoki’s own hunger lead him to graduate with not one, but two, college degrees (Only a real-- smart-- man holds a B.A. in Women's Studies.) After running successful underground concerts out of his college apartment complex, Aoki went on to build his own record label in his early 20s, named Dim Mak, after his childhood hero, Bruce Lee. Dim Mak has discovered a variety of Electro House artists including MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, and Mustard Pimp. Aoki's creative determination has melted into the fashion industry; he's designed lines for KR3W Apparel, Supra Footwear, headphones for WESC, bags with Burton, and brand new clothing range with his sister, Devon.
This May 6-9 (which just happens to be Mother's Day Weekend) there will only be one sin dominating Vegas, and I think it's one that even our moms can get on board with, just this once at least: Gluttony.
Over the 2010 Mother's Day Weekend, Sin City will play host to the delectable Vegas Uncork'd, presented by Bon Appetit. Four days, thirty events, fifty renowned chefs, and more deliciousness than your taste buds can handle. That doesn't sound like such a bad thing, now does it?
