To explain what it’s like to attend Ultra Music Festival isn’t quite that easy. Sure, those who can’t grasp exactly what “EDM” is just don’t get it. To love house music along with it’s accompanying sub genres, is truly a sort of cult our generation has embraced. Over the course of 3 days, Weekend 1 welcomed well over 50,000 people. In retrospect, that’s a tiny portion of the music lovers around the world. But to us? Nope. It felt as if it was the only type of music surrounding us in our own little heaven.
Mansion Presents Zedd, Alvin Risk, Funkagenda, Seven Lions, and Alex Metric: Sunday, March 17 (10 PM - 5 AM)
The newest creation in the city’s EDM explosion is brand new superclub Light, a Cirque du Soleil-inspired venue inside Mandalay Bay Hotel. Opening April 26th, Light will provide attendees with state-of-the-art interactive productions. And who better to announce a residency at this larger-than-life nightclub than dynamic duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike?
Most of us dance music aficionados are used to seeing Zedd behind the booth mixing progressive house beats in front of club goers or thousands of festival goers. Last night, that wasn't the case.
The 24-year-old DJ/producer made his debut appearance on The David Letterman Show, however, not in his typical role as superstar DJ. Zedd sat perched behind a piano as Foxes sang the lyrics to an acoustic version of "Clarity."
A person not familiar with the original track would probably say the performance was good, which it was. But it lacked the fierceness the original electronic version of the song gives off. For now, we'll stick to the original version but props to Zedd for showing his versatility as an artist. Watch the performance below!
There’s a new man on the scene and he’s making quite a splash in the music world. The singer/songwriter has penned songs for top producers as well as wrote his own, released an EP this past August, and is set to release his debut album in the coming year. We’re talking about New York bred singer, Matthew Koma.
It’s NYE and you know the drill:
Hot venue √
Sexy outfit √
Champagne at midnight √
What could possibly make ringing in a brand new year that much more spectacular? A performance by one of electronic dance music's hottest DJ’s? Absolutely! If you’re lucky enough to attend any of the NYE parties spanning across these five fabulous cities, you’ll be guaranteed beats, ball drops and a banging good time! Here’s a look at the Top 5:
Armin van Buuren – New York City

Following a brief hiatus, pop princess Lady Gaga lends her vocals to Zedd's quickly popular single "Stache." The single comes following the announcement of her 'Born This Way Ball' world tour which will also feature Lady Starlight and Madeon, making two very special stops in downtown Brooklyn's new entertainment mecca, Barclays Center. Those two exclusive performances will host German EDM giant Zedd, whom Gaga described in a tweet last August as having a "major musical boner" for.
If you're not familiar with Zedd, you may wanna jot this down because he's basically the new big thing. His debut LP 'Clarity' (Interscope) just dropped a couple days ago and is already garnering rave reviews among the blogosphere and media outlets alike. Just three years of producing under his belt, the talented young musicican insists that he doesn't want people calling it that, and with the new album he would rather focus on the 'M in EDM' stating "For my album I had a vision to make something that is timeless and you can listen to 20 years from now."
We are all guilty of having a case of the Monday's every once in a while. When your gearing up for the weekend ahead, it's best to accompany those thoughts with some energetic tunes. This week's playlist is compiled of huge dance tracks (old and new) that will make your week just a little bit better.
1. Ellie Goulding-I Need Your Love (Feat. Calvin Harris): This track is just destined to be a club anthem for the coming year. Harris' mellifluous producing skills shine alongside Gouldings vocals. The release date is set for the US soon!
2. Martin Solveig- The Night Out (Madeon Remix): Anything Madeon touches is just pure music bliss. At such a young age, he has proved to be a bulldozing force in the EDM world and has done it with such ease.
