Monday, December 31st, 2012 9PM - 2AM

Description

The Downtown Countdown, DC's largest New Year's Eve party, is returning to the luxurious Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue...Last year's move to a bigger venue, brought our biggest attendance and best entertainment to date...This year we're ramping it up even more, as we ring in 2013 with chart-toppers GROUPLOVE and G. LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE! We are once again happy to welcome DC101 as our radio partner and Roche as the host and emcee of the night's festivities.

With a ratio of one bartender for every 75 guests and 1 buffet station for every 250 guests, you won't spend your New Year's Eve waiting in lines. Capacity is limited to a very comfortable number.

You must be 21 or older to attend the event, with valid government issued ID...

Remember, this event will sell out early! Plus, the earlier you buy, the less expensive it will be!

For those requiring something a little more special, the Downtown Countdown is offering an exclusive VIP Ticket.

Due to popularity over previous years, the VIP area will be expanded this year at the larger Washington Hilton. A limited number of tickets will be available and will sell quickly. The VIP area will offer more upscale menus with the finest array of liquors, beers, wines and champagnes and a ratio or one bartender per every 50 guests....plus an extra hour of open bar from 8pm-2am!

All VIP areas will offer full top shelf open bars and upscale dinner buffets featuring heavy hors d'oeuvres passed butler style, plus slider and carving stations. There will be VIP areas in both the International and Columbia Ballrooms. The VIP area in the International Ballroom will be located in 1/3 of the International Ballroom's massive dance floor, as well as occupy most of the balcony surrounding the entire ballroom. INTERNATIONAL BALLROOM - Bands & Set Times Subject To Change

DC101'S ROCHE - EMCEE    9:00PM - 2:00AM

Roche re-energizes commuters during their ride home each weekday, with such popular features like "The Doo Doo Time Spectacular" and more! Roche thrives on making his show highly interactive, and keeping the listeners updated through DC101.com on everything that is important in the world of rock, pop culture, and beer!

THE LLOYD DOBLER EFFECT    9:15PM - 10:00PM

Drawing from the diverse Washington, D.C. music scene, Lloyd Dobler Effect fuses rock, percussive rhythms and vocal harmonies to create an intricate and fresh sound. LDE's multi-layered and upbeat music showcases their universal appeal to both mainstream modern rock lovers and culturally diverse audiences. The band’s list of accomplishments is impressive: winners of the 99.1 WHFS Big Break Contest that pitted LDE against hundreds of area rock bands and led to several main stage appearances at the HFStival; headlining multiple international Armed Forces Entertainment tours; and being voted one of the top ten best bands in the DC area in a Washington Post reader’s poll.

GROUPLOVE   10:15PM - 11:45PM

When the members of Grouplove met it was like a dream. The setting was a remote artist colony on the exotic, mysterious Greek island of Crete. Drummer/producer Ryan Rabin and his childhood friend and former bandmate, guitarist Andrew Wessen came from California, guitarist Christian Zucconi and keyboarist Hannah Hooper traveled from New York, and bassist Sean Gadd was the lone Brit. Each member went to Greece for their own independent reasons but over time they gravitated towards each other and discovered the sound that unified them: a merging of richly narrated, intricate songs with anthemic classic pop production. It took the band the better part of a year to reunite after they left the island, but after releaseing their debut album Never Trust A Happy Song, they’re realized that what began as a fantasy has now become very real.

MIDNIGHT COUNTDOWN & BALLOON DROP   MIDNIGHT

Say goodbye to 2012 in style in the Hilton's International Ballroom while DC101's Roche emcees the count-down to the New Year with DC's largest balloon drop, and our co-headlining act will take to the stage as the clock strikes midnight!

G. LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE MIDNIGHT - 1:30AM

The enigmatically smooth Garrett “G. Love” Dutton is one of Philadelphia’s funkiest performers of laid back, alternative hip--hop blues  (a genre he helped define). As an insatiable musical omnivore, G. Love somehow manages to synthesize his iconic influences by shedding their layers to fin that harmonic convergence where song and listener bare their souls to each other speaking nothing but the raw-boned truth. G. Love mines the sonic ore of his heroes only to emerge with a fresh lode of precious stones.

COLUMBIA BALLROOM - CLUB '13

MEGAWATT DJ'S   9:00PM-2:00AM

Year after year the most popular area to dance... We will turn the Columbia Ballroom into a full fledged nightclub with more moving lights than a concert! DeeJay Jon Paul and friends will play all your favorite dance and party music. You gotta get up to get down!

CRYSTAL BALLROOM - COMEDY LOUNGE & LIVE KARAOKE

COMEDY LOUNGE   9:30-11:30PM (SHOWS EVERY 30 MINS.)

Laugh the night away with five great comedians, performing hilarious sets every 30 minutes!

BRANDON BROADY

Growing up and attending school in Silver Spring, MD, Broady has always loved being the center of attention and humoring others. He was named “Biggest Comedian” by the Senior Class of 2004 at Springbrook High School. Making others laugh, and being the biggest comedian/class clown came naturally to him, and it was not until teachers, family, and friends suggested that he hone his skills of comedy and apply them towards acting that he found use of his talent

KANDACE SAUNDERS

Growing up on the outskirts of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD., Kandace Saunders decided she’d rather tell jokes than play with ordnance. At ten years old, Kandace began writing and performing stand up comedy routines on the playground in her neighborhood. For years, Kandace entertained classmates, friends, and family. Then one day, acting on words scribbled by a stranger in a homemade yearbook, Kandace decided to try stand up comedy.

CHIP JONES

From featuring for the Last Comic Standing’s Reject Tour to warming up the audience for the PBS television show Money Wise, Chipp Jones’ irreverent, thought-provoking brand of comedy has audiences rolling in the aisles throughout Washington DC and up and down the East Coast.

HAYWOOD TURNIPSEED

Haywood Turnipseed Jr… or Seed 2.0 as his friends call him is a Husband, a Father, a Telephone Man, & a Stand-Up Comic. Haywood has been pursuing his calling to Comedy for the past five years, hitting various open mics’ & comedy clubs, leaving many audiences’ completely ‘dazed & confused’, in the process.

WILL HESSLER

Will Hessler is a performer on the comedy scene that every fan of stand-up comedy should know. Born & raised in the suburbs of our nation’s capital, Will has been entertaining audiences all across the country with his smart & irreverent perspective, his rare ability to say exactly what people are thinking, but are often too afraid to say, and his absurd & acerbic take on life.

LIVE ACOUSTIC KARAOKE   11:30PM-2:00AM

You are the star! Chris & Phil of Lloyd Dobler Effect will play ANY song that you request, LIVE, and you will be the singer! Lyrics are provided on a computer, and Chris & Phil will back you up with harmony vocals! SING in the New Year with all your friends!

Dress Code

Dress is formal, creative black tie, optional...kind of like MTV Music Awards. We expect it to be fun not stuffy! So...for guys - jacket and tie or tux, funky preferred & for girls- cocktail or formal dresses, with creativity encouraged!
