Te Quiero, Tequila!
As Magave Tequila Sponsors WMC, We Check Out Tequila-Inspired Drinks!

Frankly, tequila and I don’t have the best relationship under the sun. Honestly, we don’t agree AT ALL! We’ve spent many nights together and have shared many special occasions; but in the end, as I spend the remaining rest of the night trying to remove it and the remains of whatever else I had to eat that night off my shoes and the next morning wondering what exactly happened, I’ve realized that there’s no real way to possibly salvage our failed relationship! Yet, there is one great relationship this year between tequila and a significant other: the 2011 WMC! As the Winter Music Conference approaches, or as we fondly refer to it, the WMC, Magave Tequila is one of the conference’s main sponsors. Hmmm…WMC and tequila, how appropriate for such an event during Spring Break in sunny South Florida! Sounds like the perfect couple.

Although Magave Tequila is based in California, it is from 100% pure Agave extract that is distilled in Jalisco, Mexico - pure tequila country! This multiple award winning tequila is now sponsoring the 2011 Winter Music Conference, one of Miami’s biggest music festivals in its 26th consecutive year. This should certainly bring Magave some attention since the WMC is one of the most publicized annual music gatherings in the world, where hoards of people come to see and listen to over a thousand DJs and artists. In lieu of this newly announced union, we’ve found some tequila-inspired drink to help you prepare for this year’s WMC. But if you’re looking for the regular Margarita or Tequila Sunrise, look elsewhere. I’ve only included some intense tequila drinks that if taken in excess can ruin your friendship with tequila like mine is. Cheers!

Tequila Ghost

2 oz. Tequila
1/2 oz. Anise Liqueur (i.e. Sambuca, Pernod)
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
Club Soda

Combine Tequila, Anise and Lemon juice in a shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass over ice. Top with a splash of club soda.

Massacre (Why is it called Massacre? Because a few of these will slaughter you!)

2 oz. Tequila
1 tsp. Campari
4 oz. Ginger Ale

Start by filling a highball glass with ice. Add the tequila and Campari. Top with ginger ale and stir well.

Navy Seal (To be shared with a couple friends, they don’t necessarily have to be in the Navy)

1 oz. Jager
1 oz. Tequila
1 oz. 151 Rum

Mix together and serve in three shot glasses.

Guac This Way (Love the name…enough said!)

1 tablespoon fresh avocado
1/2 jalapeno, seeded
2 ounces mezcal or tequila
1 ounce triple sec
Agave nectar, to taste
Juice of 1/2 lime
Ice cubes, as necessary
Spicy salt, for serving- (salt mixed with chile pepper)
Avocado wedge, for serving

Blend avocado, mezcal or tequila, triple sec, agave nectar, and lime juice with ice until smooth. Rim a margarita glass with spicy salt and garnish with a slice of avocado.
