Happy Earth Day! In honor of today, we've composed a list of South Florida's hottest farmers' markets. Perhaps you’re on a spring cleanse, or just finished your first Michael Pollan book; whatever the reason, stop by these farmers’ markets to peruse Mother Nature’s rich bounty. Not to mention the hot bodies that shop here. They’re enough to make Publix’s produce aisles green with envy.
Lincoln Road Farmer’s Market: Check out the ::ahem:: melons of South Beach at this open air market on Lincoln Road. Various vendors offer wares like fruit, veggies, fresh cut flowers, and other handmade food goods. It’s the perfect excuse to check out Sunday morning brunchers and shoppers. Open Sundays 9 am – 6:30 pm; Year Round. Lincoln Road between Washington Ave & Meridian Ave. (305) 531-0038
Josh’s Organic Garden: This open market is nestled on the boardwalk in Hollywood, FL. Grab a freshly squeezed juice and bask in the freshness of the produce, some of which is picked the night before. Remember to bring cash and your earth-friendly canvas bag to lug your goodies back home. Did we mention that all excess produce at the end of the day is delivered to terminally-ill children? Beauty and depth. Something that makes us simply fawn. Open Sundays 9am-5:30pm. 101 N Ocean Dr, Hollywood. (954) 456-3276
Coconut Grove Organic Farmers Market: Yogis and raw foodists favor this Saturday market in the Grove. It’s one of the few places to grab raw deserts, freshly squeezed coconut water and other raw food products by Glaser Organic Farms. Share a raw food pizza and switch breathing techniques with a like-minded yogi. Saturdays 10 am – 7 pm. 3300 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove. (305) 238-7747
Teena’s Pride CSA: While not technically a farmer’s market, this CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) delivers a weekly share of vegetables, fresh herbs and the best heirloom tomatoes you’ve ever tasted. The best part? They come directly from Teena’s Pride farm, located in Homestead, FL. Pre-assembled box deliveries are made weekly, with pickup locations from Miami to Aventura. There’s even a pick up location for South Beach residents at the Whole Foods on Alton road. The perfect segue to see what’s in other locavore’s boxes (of produce, that is). Weekly deliveries, 20025 SW 270th Street, Homestead. (786)243-1714
Robert is Here: This legendary farm stand, around for more than 50 years is home to tropical fruit varieties you only read about in Robinson Crusoe tales. Peruse the piles of jackfruit, mamey sapote, sapodilla and canistel. The perfect place to bring a first date to see how adventurous they really are. Open daily 8am to 7pm from November through August. 19200 Southwest 344th Street, Homestead. (305)246-1592
