Everyday I'm Trufflin'
For the love of truffles

Food trends, like all trends, come and go. One big food trend going on right now is truffle flavored, well...everything! From truffle flavored french fries to truffle pizza to truffle mayonnaise, truffles are taking the world by storm. And with good reason. Truffle oil is so good, you could put it on a wet paper bag and it would be delicious. Yes, when it comes to this delectable fungus, I  have been known to lick the plate.

There are several species of truffles, the most commonly used is black truffles. The most expensive and coveted is the elusive white truffle 'Alba madonna.' It originates from a region in northern Italy in a city called Alba. Other cities where they can be found is Molise, Tuscany and parts of Croatia. In other words, these babies are imported.

And like most rare imported items, they carry a hefty price tag. We're talking thousands of dollars per pound for white truffles! If you're not down for dishing out thousands, you'll be glad to know there are plenty options for affordable truffle enhanced food. Here are a 3 options to start with (namely my favorite, mac & cheese!). Get your truffle on!

Cafeteria, NYC

119 7th Ave
New York, NY 10010
Neighborhood: Chelsea

(212) 414-1717

mac & cheese, french fries

Cafeteria is already one of the best late night after hours spots to eat. There's often a line outside at 3am --and for good reason, the truffle mac is to die for, as are the truffle parmesan fries. In fact, I'd put money on it that more than half of the people waiting in line at all hours in the morning, stumbling and drunk are there for the truffle mac n' cheese. No joke.

Prime Italian, Miami Beach

101 Ocean Dr
Miami Beach, FL 33139

(305) 695-8484

mac & cheese, mash potatoes, risotto and french fries.

Their mac & cheese is of the richer variety. Very thick and cheesy with more truffle oil than others I've tried. They also have truffle mashed potatoes, risotto and fries. If you haven't been to Prime Italian in general, it's definitely one spot your must try while in South Beach.

Corner Shop Cafe, NYC

643 Broadway
(between Bleecker St & Bond St)
New York, NY 10012
Neighborhoods: Greenwich Village, NoHo

(212) 253-7467

mac & cheese

Corner Shop Cafe offers a lighter version of truffle mac & cheese. With smaller noodles and less oil and cheese, this dish is great if you want truffle flavor, on the skimmer side that is available for delivery! Also, try their Walnut ravioli and seasonal watermelon salad --amazing!
