Great foodie events leading up to Cinco!

Find a sombrero and get ready to start off Saturday’s Cinco De Mayo fiesta early! All week long the city celebrates Cinco De Mayo with taco nights, drink deals and bar crawls featuring tequila, Coronas, and margaritas. Starting on Wednesday we’ve found three great events, as well as four restaurants, that will keep the tequila flowing and have you saying, “si” all weekend long.

 

Wednesday May 2nd at 7 p.m.

Group Guacamole Lesson & Cinco De Mayo Party (21+): SideBAR (120 East 15th Street)

Celebrate early and learn how to make killer guacamole with friends. After the lesson you’ll have a chance to enjoy your guac with three tacos, a shot of tequila, a margarita, and a bottle of Sol beer. Tickets are $50 per person, email carly@funbars.com to reserve a lesson for your group ASAP. The Group Guacamole Lesson is a fun way to celebrate a corporate function, birthday, or special occassion with a hands-on Cinco De Mayo theme anytime of year. 

 

Thursday May 3rd

Taco Thursdays…Anywhere. Thursdays are meant for eating Tacos. If you don’t want an official Taco Thursday, just some Tacos on a Thursday, check out these awesome Mexican eateries:

Cinco De Mayo at Grand Central Station: Grand Central Station (43rd Street between Lexington & 3rd Avenue)

Beginning in 1999, this free street fair, held right outside Grand Central Station, celebrates Mexican cuisine and beverages by serving authentic Mexican street foods as well as the usual suspects found at street fairs. This fair doesn’t just highlight Mexican food, the fair also showcases a wide variety of Mexican arts and crafts, antiques, and live, multi-cultural entertainment.

 

Saturday CINCO DE MAYO from 12-7 p.m.

Mex Fest On The Seaport (21+): Pier 16—South Street Seaport (11 Fulton Street)

Spend the day you’ve been looking forward to all week at South Street Seaport. Over fifteen of New York City’s favorite food trucks will be participating in this Cinco De Mayo food truck extravaganza, Mex Fest On The Seaport. The trucks in attendance will serve their regular menu with one menu item kicked up a notch with Mexican flare. All food truck items will be pay as you go but, vouchers will be sold at the event for $8 that can be used toward 1 beer, 1 margarita, 1 michelada, 1 sombrero & mustache. Or you can use your voucher for Cinco games or merchandise. Festival attendees can also participate in a jalapeño eating contest. Make sure to save your voucher for a beer if you plan on eating a jar full of jalapeños!
