Happy National Rum Day!
Celebrate like a true sailor with these tasty cocktail specials and recipes.

It's important to go all-out for National Rum Day as it only comes once a year and it's a great excuse to drink in excess.

Try out one of the awesome recipes listed below, or check out some NYC haunts that are serving up rum cocktails in honor of this very special day!

Barrio 47 will be serving the Tamarind Dark & Stormy; Goslings dark rum, housemade ginger beer, lime juice, dash of Angostura  aromatic bitters, topped with rosemary rum mousse ($14)and the Barrio Especial; Mount Gay Barbados rum infused with lemongrass & vanilla bean, passion fruit purée and lemon sugar ($14)

Highpoint Bistro & Bar will be serving Spiked Lemonade; Cruzan rum, old fashioned lemonade ($12)

Zengo will be serving the following Mango Mojitos;  Castillo rum, mango, mint, lime ($12)

Mothers Ruin will be serving TJ's Banana-Vanilla Daiquiri special slushie all night long. ($2)

All Gerber Group properties including Lillium, Whiskey Park, Living Room, and Whiskey Blue  will serve discounted Caliche rum cocktails today.

Or if you're planning on whipping up your own cocktails in celebration, here are some tasty recipes!

TJ's Banana-Vanilla Daiquiri
3 part Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
1 part fresh lime juice
.5 part vanilla syrup
1 part fresh bananas
Hefty shake of Angostura bitters

Hit the magic button on the slushie machine; garnish with crushed vanilla wafer rim and a light dust of nutmeg. Drink wolfishly for optimal brain freeze. Repeat as desired.

Cali Ginger

2 oz Caliche Rum

¼ Agave Nectar

¾ Fresh Lemon Juice

Top with Ginger Beer

 

Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice until well chilled. Strain into an ice filled highball glass and top with Ginger Beer.

 

 

 

 




Rowes Warf 
2 oz Sailor Jerry Rum
1 oz Blackberry grapefruit tea oleo syrup*
1 oz Grapefruit juice
1/2 oz Lime juice
1/16-1/8 oz Angostura bitters
2-3 oz Ginger beer
 
*Brew two bags of English tea into one cup of hot water. Add the peel of one grapefruit and 10 blackberries to 1 cup of cane sugar. Muddle berries and peel. Add hot tea and stir to dissolve sugar.
Add syrup, grapefruit, lime into bowl, add Sailor Jerry, slowly add ice and stir. Add bitters and stir. Finish with ginger beer. Keep chilled. Serve over ice in desired glassware.
 
Cali Mojito
2 oz Caliche Rum
1oz Fresh Lime Juice
¼ oz Agave Nectar
8 Mint Leaves
Crushed ice on top
Garnish: Mint Sprig
 
In a mixing glass, lightly muddle the mint. Add the remaining ingredients fill with ice and shake until well chilled, strain into an ice filled highball glass, top with the crushed ice, and garnish.
 
 
 
 
 
Wahine Piña Colada
1.5 oz. Fresh pineapple juice
1.5 oz. House-made cream of coconut*
1.5 oz. Sailor Jerry Rum
 
*House-made cream of coconut: Combine two cans of Coco Lopez with 1 can of coconut milk, and 2 oz. fresh lime juice. 
Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add ice. Shake.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Forward to the Past
1.5 oz Sailor Jerry Rum
.25 oz Amaro
.25 oz Lime juice
.50 oz Homemade cola syrup
Top with soda water
 
In mixing glass add rum, amaro, lime juice, cola syrup. Add ice. Shake. Pour into highball glass. Top with soda water. Garnish with lime wedge.
