The Fatty Crew group unveils another awesome restaurant, this time partnering with Top Chef contestant, Leah Cohen to open their first Lower East Side, Pig and Khao. Sounds semi-fatty and seriously delicious to us! Pig and Khao will offer an innovative take on Southeast Asian cuisine in a cozy setting. The eatery opens today, September 25th.
Pig and Khao’s casual decor incorporates elements of Southeast Asian design, including a hand carved Filipino bike that hangs above the dining room and a few personal touches such as treasured photographs from chef Leah Cohen's travels throughout the Far East. Out back picnic-style communal tables offer a relaxing neighborhood hangout year round with beer from a self-serve bottomless tap. The shared plates menu will pay homage to traditional Southeast Asian fare, such as pork and rice, infused with Thai and Filipino flavors. Stand out dishes include crispy pata pork shank served with pickled mango salad, sizzling sisig with pork head, liver, chili and a whole egg, grilled pork jowl and watermelon salad with chili lime fish sauce, shallot, chicharon, herbs and toasted rice and crispy quail adobo with Szechuan peppercorn, coconut vinegar, soy sauce, bay leaves, crispy garlic, scallion and a soft-boiled quail egg.
Drinks will range from cheap canned beer to large format beer served Hong Kong style (drink out of small bowls), and wine cocktails like the Phuket Punch and Clinton St. Cooler.
Pig and Khao is located at 68 Clinton St. Dinner is served Tuesday through Sunday fro, 12 p.m. – 12 a.m. The restaurant will be open daily beginning in Oct. www.pigandkhao.com 212.920.4485.
