If you have any doubts regarding Miami’s importance as a food city, pay a visit during the month of February to understand just how huge the 305 is to the culinary world. For the past eleven years, Miami has played host to Food Network’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival, which is one of the country’s most important gastronomic events of the year. Next year, from February 21st through the 24th, locals and visitors will be able to attend tastings, lectures, demonstrations, special dinners, and unforgettable parties featuring such personalities as Duff Goldman, Ming Tsai, Emeril Lagasse, Todd English, Anthony Bourdain, John Besh, and many others.
Festival favorites like Moët Hennessy’s The Q, hosted by Paula Dean and sons this year, and Amstel Light’s Burger Bash are on the the schedule for 2013, as well as the traditional tribute dinner, which will be celebrating the life’s work of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Christophe Navarre and will be hosted by Martha Stewart. In addition to past SBWFF favorites, there will also be some interesting new events this year that promise to cater to every food lover, from the novice foodie to the seasoned gourmand. Lovers of reggae and Caribbean cuisine should be sure not to miss Guy Fieri’s Roadshow & Reggae with musical icon Ziggy Marley and dishes from Cindy Hutson of Ortanique on The Mile. Also not to be missed is the Pescado & Pisco event, hosted by Chef Laurent Tourondel and celebrated Peruvian chef, Gaston Acurio.
Of course, the highlight of the food festival has and always will be the Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village featuring Food Network and Cooking Channel chefs, celebrity chefs, and other culinary personalities presenting cooking demonstrations and signing autographs for adoring fans. As the name “Tasting Village” implies, guests will be able to enjoy samples of food, wine, and cocktails from their favorite chefs and suppliers, as well as text their votes to see who wins the Miami New Times’ “Short Order's Best Bite on the Beach” award. As in past years, the 12th annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival promises to be an unforgettable event for the food obsessed!
