Where to dine in Miami this Valentine's Day
Joonbug has its picks for most romantic and delicious V-day dinners

February is filled with so much to do in South Florida for a foodie. As if our minds aren’t already constantly occupied with the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, we have Valentine’s Day to think about next week. If you’re lucky enough to have someone with whom to celebrate it, you probably know that a romantic dinner can truly take this day of love from simply romantic to truly memorable. While attempting to make a gourmet, multi course meal at home is an honorable feat, sometimes it’s best to let some our best chefs work at the food while you enjoy each other’s company.  In case you haven't already made plans, here are some of Joonbug’s picks in Miami for Valentine’s Day dinner:

Enjoy a dinner for two for $200 that includes tagliolini alla aragosta prepare with a three pound Maine Lobster, and finish with a Bianca chocolate fondue served with strawberries, bananas, pound cake and biscotti while sipping glasses of champagne and enjoying a romantic movie. End the evening by enjoying the Delano hotel’s romantic grounds.

From February 14th through the 17th, couples can enjoy a multicourse dinner at $90 per couple that includes such appetizers as spinach and watercress salad with roasted beets, poached pears, candied walnuts, gorgonzola, and walnut vinaigrette or a sumptuous Maine lobster bisque made with cream, sherry, tomato, and lobster. Of course, there is a selection of fresh shucked oysters to get the mood right. Follow appetizers with a selection of char crusted ahi tuna served with Yukon potatoes, asparagus and Foyot sauce or seared sea scallops with lobster risotto, champagne beurre blanc and tobiko caviar. Desserts include such sensuous items as a vanilla bean crème brûlée or a chocolate lava cake.

Start the evening with a signature cocktail called the Champagne Kiss consisting of French sparkling rosé wine, Spring44 Honey Vodka, white crème de cacao, and cherry bitters garnished with a black cherry. A la carte offerings include an appetizer of 6 Kusshi oysters topped with cucumber sorbet and black bowfin caviar. For entrées, the restaurant offers several surf and turf options, including a 2 lb, split and steamed lobster paired with wood grilled fillet, wild mushrooms, short rib marmalade and roasted baby beets.

Lovers can enjoy a three-course prix-fixe meal for $69 per person that includes the restaurant’s signature eclectic creations such as a tuna tartare with harissa, Israeli couscous and Greek yogurt, or a comforting entrée of Guinness-braised short ribs with Yukon gold potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. In staying with the farm-to-table concept, diners will have the choice of seasonal dessert.

Quattro’s tasting menu ($80 per person) will include several dishes that include such gourmet northern Italian offerings as a squid ink risotto with scampi and prosecco and Maine lobster medallion with fresh burrata cheese and micro basil, as well as entrée of crispy Mediterranean seafood and vegetables with capers and sun dried tomato sauce or a beef filet grilled with balsamic demi glace, parmesan cheese, asparagus, and saffron roasted potatoes. Desserts include a passion fruit panna cotta with white chocolate sauce and limoncello sorbet.

At $75 per person, The Forge’s “Love Menu” promises to make this evening speciali with such dishes as a 1 lb Lobster Thermidor with basic, meringue, herb salad, and roasted tomatoes. The oak grilled filet mignon with tomato porcini sauce, polenta and bone marrow pudding also sounds tempting, and the special V-day menu plans on offering a variety of individual and shared dishes so couples can choose how cozy they want to get.

The beautiful outdoor dining area definitely makes for a romantic ambiance, especially table #107, known as the “Proposal Table”. Enjoy à la carte offerings like spaghetti with lobster, black truffle pizza with goat cheese, snapper crudo with passion fruit and crispy kale, and dry aged ribeye with roasted vegetables and a sauce of morel mushrooms.

Enjoy the artsier side of Miami at this creative Wynwood eatery with a four course dinner ($100 per couple) that includes lobster with spicy citrus soy, papaya, peanuts, and pepitas, as well as ocean trout, truffle honey and lemongrass glaze, bok choy, chinese sausage, and coban soay. Also on the menu is a washu rib eye with marisol sauce and parsnip purée, and dinner ends with a Chocolate Machu Picchu Cake.

There are fewer more sensual dishes than a classic Alpine cheese fondue, and those looking for a more casual, less filling V-day meal can find just the place at The Cheese Course. For $19.95, diners can enjoy an oozing combination of Gruyère and Emmental cheese served with cherry tomatoes, pearl onions, cornichons, potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and fresh bread. The best part? Each order of fondue comes with 2 complimentary glasses of wine!

This pan-latin restaurant (read review here) in the newly renovated Intercontinental hotel will be offering a prix-fixe dinner for $85 per person featuring an amuse bouche, a shellfish platter featuring shrimp, crab, and oyster, parmesan crusted scallops, and a wild mushroom flatbread. A “His and Her Skillet” entrée features Omaha ribeye, chorizo, lobster tail, and prawns with sides such as creamed spinach and yukon potato mash. Dessert consists of a sampler of Chef Sandoval’s treats for two.

In addition to its regular à la carte menu (read review here), SoBe’s newest and sexiest Italian restaurant will be offering a prix-fixe menu for $75 per person that includes a butternut squash soup with roasted chestnuts and whipped ricotta, as well as a filet mignon with potato gratin, roasted carrots, asparagus, and black truffle sauce or a truffle ravioli with vegetable ragù. Sweet endings include a strawberry tart with sponge cake, chantilly cream, and fresh strawberries, or a chocolate cake made with Valrhona chocolate and mascarpone cream.

Valentine’s Day blackboard specials are available à la carte or as part of a $70 per person prix-fixe. Appetizers include Peekytoe crab salad with radish, ginger marinated shiitake mushrooms, and miso dijonnaise or crispy pork belly with chicory salad, confit tomato purée and pickled white peaches. Entrées include either a Jackman Ranch Wagyu coulotte (a French cut of steak) with seared foie gras, pomme macaire, and red wine sauce, or butter poached lobster with smoked oyster, lemongrass nage, and chili oil. Enjoy sides like a black truffle and parmesan cauliflower gratin, and finish with a strawberry pavlova with passion fruit ice cream and sangria consommé.

For $50 per person, diners can enjoy a three-course dinner at this trendy Design District restaurant. Baked oysters with hollandaise sauce and paddlefish caviar make for delicious start to the meal, while a mushroom crusted NY strip steak with truffle butter, grilled leeks and smashed potato promises to make for a memorable evening. End dinner on a light note with a billowy chocolate soufflé or savor an exotic take on a French classic with a passion fruit crème brûlée.

There are just so many romantic dining options at this luxurious resort, starting with a private Cabana dinner (starting at $500 per couple) with personalized butler service, fresh flowers, a bottle of champagne and Gotham Steak’s special prix-fixe menu that includes Petrossian caviar, whole roasted rack of lamb, and whole roasted European Dover sole. Scarpetta will offer an $85 per person prix-fixe menu that will include such favorites as their creamy polenta with fricassé of truffled mushrooms and their duck and foie gras ravioli, as well as Amadei chocolate cake and mascarpone napoléon for dessert. For lovers of gourmet Cantonese cuisine, Hakkasan will offer a multicourse meal at $350 a couple that includes traditional Peking Duck and charcoal grilled honey Chilean sea bass. La Côte will be offering a four-course Mediterranean meal at $120 a couple in the restaurant, or $199 per couple in a private cabana with a champagne toast. Make sure to leave room for some decadent pastries from Solo that include chocolate hearts, raspberry and passion fruit truffles, napoléons, and French macarons.
