Today is National Pancake Day!
Celebrate National Pancake Day with sweet sizzling dishes around the city.

Pancakes are a pretty universal favorite of childhood breakfasts, but that doesn't mean you can't indulge as an adult. Today is National Pancake Day, and it's as good a day as any to declare no food off-limits in adulthood, especially not one as delicious as pancakes. That seems to be the attitude of the number of eateries that are serving up pancakes, both the traditional, syrup-slathered treats you remember from Saturday mornings of yore, and new, savory pancake creations that are good any time of day. We've rounded up a list of the best places to pick up a pancake to celebrate National Pancake Day in style.

 1)The Strand Smokehouse

Forget bacon. For classic pancakes with a beefy twist, try The Strand Smokehouse’s Huge Stack. Your order comes with four fluffly, homestyle pancackes piled high with the Smokehouse’s signature pulled pork. Keep up the sweet-savory tango by adding blueberries.

25-27 Broadway. Astoria, NY 11106

2) The Mermaid Inn

This Amsterdam Ave mainstay serves up Cornmeal Pancakes that create the perfect crisp on the outside while leaving the inside moist and sweet. The relatively spartan toppings (powdered sugar and maple syrup) let you enjoy the cake all the more.

568 Amsterdam Ave, New York NY 10024 (212-674-5870)

 3) Preserve 24

Preserve 24 is perhaps best known for their art-installation-esque decor, but they’re also worth visiting for their pancakes. Particularly of note are their Strawberry Rhubarb Pancakes, whose sweet-and-tart flavors are paired nicely with salted butter.

175-177 East Houston Street, (646-837-6100)

4) Greenwich Project

Brunch-scene newcomer Greenwhich Project has a pancake twist on a classic NYC bakery treat. The Black and White Pancake is decadently sweet and as aesthetically pleasing as it is delicious. Try it with a side of pastrami-smoked salmon.

47 W. 8th St., New York, NY 10011 (212-253-9335)

5) Maialino

Maialino, Danny Meyer’s newest endeavor, gives the pancake an Italian trattoria treatment. The Ricotta Pancakes have a tangy, tart sweetness and a perfect thin crunchiness that is definitely worth trying.

2 Lexington Avenue, New York NY 10010 (212-777-2410)

6) The Fourth

Pancakes get deconstructed and then reconstructed at The Fourth with the Pancake Souffle. Topped with bananas and pecans, the airy, flavorful souffle is a must-have on the mouth-watering breakfast menu.

132 4th Avenue, at East 13th St. (212) 432-1324
