Back in 2008, the world was gifted with Santogold, the debut album from Santigold. The record was a fresh and creative fusion of hip-hop, African beats and punk rock. At the time the tracks were everywhere: video games - NHL 08, FIFA 08, NBA 2k9, commercials - Ford Flex, Zune-Arts, her song "Shove It" was even featured on an episode of Gossip Girl. She toured relentlessly supporting acts of all genres including Jay Z, Kanye West, Coldplay, M.I.A., and Bjork. And no doubt, at any good party you heard at least one Santigold jam spinning. But since her epic uprising, and few collaborations with the likes of the Beastie Boys, David Bryne and Fatboy Slim, and an appearance on the N.A.S.A album, the past couple of years have been relatively quiet for Santigold...until now.
"Go" makes you move. This is no doubt one of these pre-summer tracks that you're going to hear all season. Santigold's new album, American Dreaming, is yet to have a release date, but if "Go", featuring Karen O and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, is any indication of its direction, the world is in for a big treat.
Entertainment Weekly reported Santigold saying this about her new song, "This song comments on the era
we live in and the NEW American dream. The dream used to be that if you worked hard, and you were good at what you did, you could pave your own way in America and the sky was the limit. … However, things have changed. The NEW American Dream is to become rich and famous by happenstance – or sex tapes – and to get there with as little work or talent as possible. And as a result, we are suffering – though many of us don’t know it – as quality becomes a notion of the past. We’re ruining art, our planet, and our health, all due to our newfound obsession with instant gratification.”
So, take a listen and maybe it will inspire your own American dreaming.
