The New York Identity Festival is just around the corner, and with all the talented acts slated in the lineup this year, it’s going to be hard not to have a great time. The festival at Jones Beach Theater in Long Island, is showcasing some major DJs/producers and singers, resulting in one of the only locations to sell out completely so quickly. If you’re getting ready to dance your pants off this weekend at the festival, here are five acts to look out for:
For the past ten years, Eric Prydz has been a name you simply cannot ignore when it comes to dance music. The Grammy-nominated Swedish musical genius, also known under his Cirez D alias among others, is the mastermind behind some of the most well-known dance tracks including “Pjanoo," “Call On Me," “In and Out," ”2night," the more recent “Allein.” And we can't forget “Proper Education," a renowned song featuring a sample from Pink Floyd. He has collaborated with and remixed for a number of distinguished artists in EDM including Steve Angello, Calvin Harris, Digitalsim, and Depeche Mode, while running his two labels Pryda and Mouseville. This year Prydz released his “Eric Prydz Presents Pryda” album featuring 37 amazing house tracks from the Pryda catalogue mixed by Eric. The album includes his most recent hit “Allein," which has been supported by the biggest names in EDM. As the headliner for Identity this year, you can expect to hear a set that is sure to rock the house.
Madeon is a young French DJ/producer who has been rising quickly in the EDM scene over the past year. At just 17 years old, one of his first singles “Icarus," an invigorating electro house track, earned the #2 spot on the global Beatport chart as well as landing in the UK top 40. He has released a few remixes for artists like Deadmau5, Martin Solveig, and Pendulum, and just recently this month, released his latest original track called “Finale." With support from the likes of EDM giants such as Pete Tong, Skrillex, Annie Mac and more, Madeon’s set is one that should not be missed.
This electrifying young Russian musical talent has quickly become a highly sought after DJ/producer in EDM. For the past few years Arty’s career in the dance music industry has taken off forcefully, now landing him at #25 in DJ Mag’s 2011 Top 100 DJs poll, and at a point where he has not only played alongside some of the most desirable EDM acts, but has led him all around the world, blowing the roof off the most famous clubs and festivals. His work has been supported by veterans like Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Avicii, and a long list of others, as well as collaborated with artists like Mat Zo, Matisse & Sadko, and most recently EDM luminary Paul Van Dyk. The fresh collaboration released with Paul called “The Ocean” has been heavily supported, and was featured on Paul’s most recent album, also released this year. Arty’s other dance floor anthems include “Around The World," “Kate," and “She Gave Happiness." Anyone who was at Electric Zoo last year knows this young and talented musical prodigy absolutely destroyed the dance floor during his set, and you can expect that his upcoming set at Identity should be no different.
The Dutch brothers of Showtek, Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen, have been providing quality beats for over 5 years, propelled by their first artist album “Today is Tomorrow” in 2007. Their career has only escalated since then, leading them all across the globe to spread their illustrious and versatile musical creations. Aside from their music being supported by legends in EDM like Tiesto, their track “Raver," a hard dance track with a massive booming bass line, was featured on the soundtrack of the movie “Bruno." The boys have worked with Tiesto a lot over the years, co-producing Allure’s “Kiss from the Past” album, Tiesto’s smash hit “Maximal Crazy”, in addition to a track called “We Rock” with Tiesto and Angger Dimas. Last month, Showtek put out their latest release “Hell Yeah," a collaboration with Tiesto that is sure to be a huge festival anthem for the rest of the summer festival season. The duo is also preparing to release another collaboration with the young Dutch DJ/producer Hardwell, at the end of the month. You can anticipate some amazing music to dance to from these two during their Identity set.
Eva Simons is a name that is rapidly radiating throughout the EDM scene. Over the past several years, the Dutch singer has collaborated with a number of prominent producers, especially in electronic dance music. Her career exploded when she joined forces with Nick van de Wall, better known as Afrojack, on one of the most acclaimed dance tracks: “Take Over Control." The song remained at the top of the Billboard dance chart for 6 weeks. Earlier this year, she released “I don’t like” you, produced by Zedd, which has been remixed by Fred Falke, R3hab, Nicky Romero, and Nick Thayer. Simons just this past week released “I Need More” with the Dutch electro DJ/producer Apster, and her brand new single “Renegade." Look out for Eva New Yorkers, because she is sure to take over control at Identity this weekend.
