Totally Shpongled
A sneak peek at the electronic duo's long-awaited release

Internationally renowned psychedelic downtempo act Shpongle, comprised of production mastermind Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, Younger Brother) and the ever-flamboyant flautist extraordinaire Raja Ram (TIP Records), is one of those acts that is truly one-of-a-kind. While the instantly recognizable style does not always appear to vary between tracks, Shpongle's music is a perfect reminder that appearances can be deceiving; every song is so incredibly different and unique that they can each stand alone as a journey of their own. Put the tracks together in the form of an album, though, and one can expect to go on a veritable auditory trip around the universe. Infused with Middle Eastern rhythms, classical melodies, and a bit of dance-driven bass, it is no wonder Posford and Raja Ram's lovechild has not only seen success in their native land of England, but across Europe and Asia, as well as garnered massive spots at festivals and venues here in the United States like Camp Bisco, Lightning in a Bottle, and Red Rocks.

Last week, to the delight of fans the world over, Shpongle released a brand new track from their upcoming album, Museum of Consciousness. After being begged by fans for a full-length release almost immediately after the drop of their last album, 2009's Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland, the goods are finally on their way! Shpongolians across the globe have reason to be thrilled by more than just the announcement of a new album, too, as the duo have provided the opportunity to preview what's to come. The aptly titled track, “Brain in a Fish Tank,” is everything the fans have been waiting for and more. With a haunting xylophone/piano and flute-driven melody, vocals from the always fabulous Michele Adamson juxtaposed with strangely distorted speaking samples, and styles and tempos ranging from instrumental ambiance to pounding psyhouse, “Brain in a Fish Tank” is wonderfully weird and perfectly Shpongle. Don't take our word for it, though—give it a listen and let us know what you think!

Be sure to keep an eye out for Shpongle's new album, Museum of Consciousness, scheduled to arrive on Earth on July 29, 2013, and currently available for presale through Twisted Records.
