Event Review: Cosmic Gate
Marquee New York 11/2

This past Saturday the German trance duo, Cosmic Gate, took hold of the ears and hearts of New York party goers with an amazing performance at Marquee. This venue is one of the City’s most sophisticated and beautiful clubs, the tactile environment and perfectly balanced sound system was a great reflection of the emotionally charged music that the crowd was there for.

Due to a private party, the show did not start until midnight,  but by 11:30pm, there was already quite a line stretching down 10th avenue. Once doors opened, the club quickly filled up and the opening DJ began the party with an hour long set of low key tracks that woke the crowd up and made them hungry for more.

Before beginning their performance, Cosmic Gate was in good spirits, chatting & taking pictures with fans on the side of the stage. At 1am they took control of the DJ booth and began to deliver the energetic music everyone is there for.

Cosmic Gate did an amazing job of reading the club and delivering the kind of music the crowd wanted.  Early in the set, Marquee erupted in a sing along of the group’s mix of “A thing Called Spaceman,” a mash-up of the hit songs by Above & Beyond and Hardwell. Later the dance floor erupted in an explosion for remixes of tracks like “Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat.” & a trance remix of Swedish house Mafia’s “Greyhound.” As the set progressed, there was less play of the popular electro bangers and true trance fans were kept happy by the classic Cosmic Gate tracks like “Exploration of Space” and “Firewire." They finished up their performance with a mix of Nic Chagall’s instant hit “This Moment.”

Throughout the night the Duo danced in the DJ booth, clapping along with the music, and giving high- fives to fans. At one point during the set, Stefan Bossems reached out and took a phone of one lucky fan from the crowd to record a video from inside the DJ booth. Without a doubt, Cosmic Gate are true crowd pleasers, and put on a show that made everyone in attendance happy to call themselves a fan.

JoonBug would like to send a special thanks to the management at Marquee New York, for being very helpful & accommodating with all of our needs. The true spirit of hospitality in each and every staff member is something not often seen in this industry, it truly sets this venue apart from the rest & shows why this night club is one of the best in the world.
