Sky Ferreira’s album is really, really good --and that’s not because Pitchfork said so. Sky Ferreira is only 21, yet seems to encapsulate the pop sounds of the 80’s on Night Time, My Time like she lived through it. Pre-album, the star did have to face minor setbacks; run-ins with the law and concert cancellations had gossipers ready to throw out comparisons of her to controversial stars like Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus. However, Ferreira never set out to portray a squeaky clean image in the first place, she lives a life under the radar and spectators simply gravitate to her grunge-y, rebel image. She was able to navigate a musical career almost completely through social networking which sets her apart from her peers and makes this album debut an applaudable effort.
Night Time, My Time just goes on to enhance the singer’s impeccable style and versatility boasting electro-pop dreamwaves and unadulterated harmonies and lyrics.
Here are some of the album’s standout tracks:
Heavy Metal Heart - Sky sings loud and proud about finding love and believing in it all over again. Moods are up and the sun is high in this full-bodied, feel-good track.
I Blame Myself - Underneath it all/I know it's not your fault/That you don't understand/I blame myself- sings Ferreira on a chorus set to an uptempo beat, piano notes, and fluid vocals. This cool anthemic track could be a possible hit among masses.
"You’re Not The One" is the lead single of Night Time, My Time and it’s not hard to understand why. The pop gem is rife with angsty electric guitar riffs and a catchy melodic chorus guaranteed to stick in your head for days.
"Nobody Asked Me (if I was okay)" harkens to Ferreira’s dark days and struggle with emotional neglect. The singer provides commentary on this power-punk track, asserting herself as strong and aware of the issues surrounding her.
