In light of his third "Pop Up" compilation, Perez Hilton rendezvoused with fans and pop enthusiasts at Webster Hall for a performance by Betty Who, and surprise guests, Savoir Adore and Nina Sky. The event began promptly as guests mingled with a Miley Cyrus printed body-suit clad Perez and a bubbly Betty Who. Delicious Cupcakes were up for grabs and "DNA" Monster headphones were on display. Savoir Adore filled The Marlin Room with a whimsical & rhythmic setlist followed by an energetic DJ set by Nina Sky. Dynamic rising pop star, Betty Who, ended the night with two new songs, "High Society", "Right Here" and the hit single "Somebody loves you."
Betty Who first caught the eye of Perez Hilton earlier this year and he has been her fan ever since. It made all the more sense to have her perform and announce two new singles, "Heartbreak Dream" and "Giving Me Away" from her debut album, which will be coming out sometime in 2014. Betty Who is the pop star you can relate to and the general theme of her album is love. "Heartbreak, love, falling in and out of love. I was in a tumultuous relationship while writing the bulk of the album. Its about figuring out how to be loved properly", said Betty Who.
The "Pop Up" compilation introduces up and coming artists to the public that otherwise would not be known due to the oversaturated top-40 radio scene. Some of the artists on the track list include Stamps, Icona Pop and Betty Who. Previously, Perez helped introduce Sky Ferreira and Charli XCX to the masses with his "Pop Up: #2" compilation.
We asked Perez, who recently moved to NYC, what he thought about the NYC music scene compared to the LA music scene. "The industry is in Los Angeles. Artists go there. NYC has a much more passionate and present music loving audience. Crowds are early adopters. People aren't 'too cool for school'," said Perez Hilton.
