The music portion of the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival will take place from March 11th -- 16th. In this series of talented music showcases, artists from all genres across the board will be featured during the biggest music festival to be held in Austin, TX.
The SXSW festival is legendary for jump starting the careers to many musicians, just ask John Mayer who got signed to his first record label after his showcase at the 2000 SXSW Music Festival. This year, they will feature some of the hottest musicians in the game right now, let's take a look at some of them:
Infamous East Coast Rap legends, Mobb Deep, will make an appearance. Oh, you don't know about 'Shook Ones Part II'? Then you don't know about the East Coast rap game. Mobb Deep hails deep from Queensbridge, NY and they will always be the reigning veterans of hardcore NYC street rap. Check them out on Friday, March 14th at the Holy Mountain.
Bay Area rapper, Sage The Gemini, released his hit track 'Gas Pedal' in 2013, making chart-topping appearances on Billboard's list. Check out this fresh face at SXSW this year on Thursday, March 13 at the Avenue on Congress Rooftop
Check out Solidisco on Saturday, March 15 at the Swan Drive. They're quickly rising the ranks in House music, making a name for themselves. Known for their new age retro sound, Solidisco is standing apart from the pack to deliver the freshest tunes.
Best known for co-writing some of the most popular tracks in dance music like the 2012 smash hit, "Calling (Lose My Mind)" and most notably, "Spectrum," Matthew Koma is a heavily talented artist in his own right. Make sure to catch him croon some of his original tunes on Friday, March 14 located in the Victorian Room at The Driskill.
British Grammy Award winning group, Dirty Vegas, will also make an appearance this year. One of the earlier tastemakers in today's trending EDM, their hit single, 'Days Go By' is now a classic. How time flies! Catch them on Saturday, March 15th at the Swan Dive Patio.
Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize is a cool cat in electro house music right here, right now. His funky, heavy techno house sound has worked alongside artists like Snoop Dogg for 'Got It.' Boys Noize will be live at The Majestic on Thursday, March 13th.
Bands To Watch
Hailing from Houston, TX, female-fronted 4 piece band, The Tontons are making a stop at SXSW this year. Their new album was featured on the Wall Street Journal and their track 'Veida' made it on the Best Songs of 2013 list. They will be playing at 512 on Wednesday, March 13th.
The band known as, The Suffers, is composed of nine guys and one girl playing Gulf Coast Soul. They are the winner of 4 Houston Press Awards and are best known for playing a blend of soulful rock & roll and vintage Jamaican rocksteady. Watch them perform "Giver" live here.
Nashville's The Lonely Biscuits will be showcasing at SXSW this year. They were voted MTVU's 'College Artist of the Year' and they're rising fast!
