Spring breakers flooded 7th and Ocean last week, but there's a different kind of crowd coming around over the next few days. The 16th season of Funkshion Fashion Week kicks off this Tuesday, March 22, 2011, with an RSVP only dinner soiree at EDEN restaurant on 23rd and Collins, before tents fill on Wedndesday for opening night. In true Miami fashion, the tents will be built directly on the sand, and there will even be a whole show dedicated to fashion students from the Miami International University of Art and Design on Thursday, March 24.
Admission is free of cost, which we love. All you have to do is RSVP here and show up. It's a four day/evening long event and designers will be showcasing their 2011 Fall/Winter collections. Expect a good time, as many of the designers have personally selected their favorite celebrity DJs and bands to preside over their runway shows. We personally can't wait for the Fashion Loves Haiti exhibit--a presentation that will shine the light on the island and the role that Fashion can play in the rebuilding efforts. Masquerade Motel this Saturday, March 26, is something you won't want to miss either. Swedish House Mafia and fashion shows? At the same time? We salute you, Funkshion Fashion Week.
