For S/S 2012, General Idea brought us a nostalgic collection of tailored classic stripes, full knit tops and bottoms, vests, and double breasted blazers with a scuba diver, neon twist. There was plenty of sailor inspired detail, color blocking and unexpected fluorescent detailing that brought the pieces to life. (Think neon soled shoes and collars.) Also heavily featured in the collection was rolled up colored chinos (still going strong off last season) and boyish ties (a huge trend this season).
One unexpected color he featured was a bright mint green tone, which was somehow masculine, despite its previous feminine reputation. The collection was reminiscent of Ken circa 1960s, polished, charming and well put together. One classic Ken outfit I immediately thought of was 'Snorkel Gear' from 1963.
All comparisons aside, I was absolutely enthralled with the collection. It was a knockout for me. I was so excited, I text my boyfriend about it as soon as I left the show. If every man got on General Idea, they would be getting a lot more dates, that's for sure. There's no doubt about, Bumshuk Choi has arrived and is one designer who will be around for a long time.
